I was wondering if we would start to hear these rumblings:

https://nesn.com/2020/01/nfl-rumors-rumblings-bill-belichick-is-considering-leaving-patriots/

It's speculation, but apparently by a guy who does not engage in a lot of speculation.  What had me wondering was McDaniels "assembling his staff" and presumably raiding the Pats coffers.  I wondered since day one whether that was to show preparedness, or give Hoodie a nudge.

The speculation in the article is that Belichick might go to another organization completely.  My initial wondering was whether he was going to just concentrate on his GM duties.  20 years as a HC with one team is a long time.  I also think being both a GM and HC is extremely tough task.

I have no idea and have not heard anything about any friction in the Pats organization (not sure I would know about it if it was there).  Belichick has always been a guy that would squelch such things, and if he needed help from above, Kraft would back him.

But the Pats need some work.  They have a lot of questions and uncertainty, not only on their roster (including Brady) but in various positions in the organization.  It is almost like everything is coming to a head at once.  I'm not saying Belichick is not up to the task, he just may not want to be both retooling everything and running things on the field anymore.  The guy will be 68 in April, and that would be an enormous task even if he was 48.

To my knowledge, he has not said a word about it  recently, and I don't think anybody has had the nerve to ask him directly, other than as part of the mop up about the future of the Pats.  His response to that was " “All the future questions are the future.”

A couple of years ago, Bill wanted to trade Brady and hand the reins over to a guy named Jimmy Garapollo. He had a trade partner lined up. Kraft got word about it and said hell no. He thinks of Brady like a son. Kraft and Bill's relationship hasn't been the same since.

I knew there was friction between Brady and any QB not named Brady, and thought trading Garapollo was an unusually short-sighted decision.  I just sort of chalked it up to protecting Brady, the way the Colts used to protect Manning.  I thought it was just the latest and probably last rendition of "trade the backup for the best deal you can get."

I was not aware it strained Hoodie's relationship with Kraft.  That would explain some of the grumblings, and Hoodie's coyness about the future, including his own.  But coyness is not something I thought was all that unusual with him.

If something is going to happen, it will happen soon.  There have always been rumors about Hoodie and the Giants.  So, that clock is running, too.

    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
    • The bottom lines to me are that a) we played well enough to beat the best team in the league and b) Bryce Young is growing into a bridge QB role (his ceiling) for us. As much as I don't want BY around after the season, it seems DC can still build the O with a game manager at QB for now. Best case scanario, we can build the D through the draft this year and take a QB we have conviction outside the 1st this or next draft. If BY keeps improving, we are going to win a couple more games this year.
    • Bryce has been a completely different QB since coming back. That started in Denver where it was obviously he was playing a lot more loose and willing to push the ball downfield  Bryce continues to build off of the previous weeks performance and that’s what you want to see Bryce has been making some real good anticipation throws. Reading defenses well. Pushing the ball downfield (7 throws of 20+ air yards yesterday. 8 if you want to include PI to Thielen). The deep ball accuracy has been there. Some of Young’s best throws yesterday were incompletions. Sideline balls to XL and Moore both should’ve been caught. RZ dot to Tremble should’ve been caught. And another RZ ball to Moore that Young gave him a chance at. Bryce is starting to execute Canales offense and yesterday Canales finally opened it up a bit. Canales was to blame for the 126 passing yards in Germany as he played a more conservative game.  The next bit I’m looking for his for Young to be a bit more decisive with running the ball. Start putting that on film and it’ll help open things up a tad
