Value of RB's - how much worse would we have been without McCaffrey

That's a convenient list. The Rams went to the super bowl last year and the Cowboys have gone to the playoffs multiple times since drafting Elliot with a chance still to make it this year. The Raiders didn't add any high profile free agents and took Jacobs in the 1st who legitimized their running game and now they've got a chance to make the playoffs this year.

There's not a single position that has the impact of qb and you're not going to draft a qb every time you're in the top 10. We had a healthy Cam when we drafted CMC. Who could we have drafted that year who would have helped us win more games, qb aside?

The Rams went to the Super Bowl last year giving the majority of their carries to CJ Anderson in the playoffs (who we cut), showing how fungible running backs are

And the answer to your question is Lattimore, who most of us wanted to be the pick (Cook in the 2nd, or Kamara in the 4th)

CMC is going to demand to be the highest paid RB, and deservedly so. Do we really want to be the team to give him that contract?

If this team is really wanting to rebuild, he could net us quite a haul of picks for this year and next year, and we could draft another RB either this year or next, along with one of either Fields or Lawrence, while rolling with Bonnafon 2020.

I think we pay him. The thing with cmc is he can still play receiver even when he starts to slow down. He is an elite route runner. But I think he’ll more than likely have 3 more years of 1000+ running. A young QB needs that help if we end up drafting one. I would not sign him again after the first extension.

Be perfect if and when we do extend him, if we could get by adding only 2 or 3 years. I just don’t want us to be crippled by a long term contract, but you are right about him being an elite route runner, and him easily transitioning to slot receiver as he ages.

What do Saquon Barkley, Nick Chubb, Christian McCaffrey, Ezekiel Elliott, Todd Gurley, Leonard Fournette, and Josh Jacobs have in common

0 playoff appearances this year

Don't draft RBs in the top 10, don't give them second contracts

No matter how good they are

CMC is the only one I'd draft because he is such a good wr and seems to be durable. If your HB can pull in 100 balls for a thousand yards he is undoubtedly worth it, in fact he's one of the most potent weapons in the NFL if not the most. He did all this with KA under center.

With McCaffrey - 5-11

Without McCaffrey - 1-15

An elite RB and we're still terrible but oh no! without him we'd be even more terrible!

RB's are next to worthless - as this season demonstrates

4 win difference for one position that isn't a QB is about as significant as it gets....

And what this season demonstrated is that we could have prime Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, LaDainian Tomlinson, Marshall Faulk, etc. with a HOF QB and still would be terrible because our oline is worse than about half of college football lines and our defense couldn't stop the run if their life depended on it.

The argument isn't that you can win without a running game .. it's that you can plug and play at RB .. any 4th round RB with the volume we gave McCaffrey would have numbers

If by numbers, you mean 300 carries for 600 yards and 50 receptions for 200 yards, then yes, you are right....

Pretty sure most RB's would have died behind this oline this year. We just witnessed Will Grier die in 1.5 games...

It's amazing what CMC did with that oline, I guess at least they run blocked ok lol. Seriously though, dont know why we didn't at least try Larsen....the pocket collapsed so bad thanks to his work at C, and asking him to pick up a blitz, good luck.
