Yep, genius Hurney found those gems late in the 3rd-4th rounds right?

Lolz, it’s not hard to draft great first round players when you are constantly putting together rosters that are netting you top 5 picks all the time.

His terrible drafting track record (outside those high 1st round picks) combined with his cap management, and bad free agency record are why he is so bad.

The reason why the Browns, Jags, Bucs, are perennial playoff contenders.

Joe Thomas was drafted by Phil Savage.

Barry Sanders was drafted by Russ Thomas.

Calvin Johnson was drafted by Matt Millen.

All time great players, all of whom spent their careers on terrible teams because their GMs couldn't build anything around them.

But yeah, Marty's good :eyeroll:

One player each. How many have drafted great in the first for over a decade?

His two drafts so far look like his 2008-2012, first round is great, rest crap. It’s easy to pick top 10. You only have 10 guys to even look at and you can’t get faked out and reach like he does. He’s been awful and this team is talentless right now. Depth and Line play is just the worst so even having CMC, Luke and Moore won’t help us. A GM can’t be successful long term by getting 1, maybe 2 guys each draft. It’s why we usually pick so high with him as GM.

And not just the draft.  A GM also has to be good at "shopping at Walmart" in the offseason to fill positions and add quality depth.

Yet another thing that Marty Hurney is a complete and total disaster at.

Because continuity? Lol give me a break. Give me more than the suck status quo.

As I (and many others) have pointed out before, some people are so afraid of change and risk that they'd rather wrap themselves in the warm blanket of eternal mediocrity.

The sad part of that is that eternal mediocrity will STILL make you tens of millions of dollars as an owner in the National Football League.

Poe is awful

irvin and McCoy can’t stop anybody from running

we set a record for giving up rushing TD’s this year

you forgot he also signed Williams, who totally sucks

and signed Reid, who is a paycheck collectors at best

and drafted gaulden who we cut

Hurney reacted to the previous years problems..last year we couldn’t get pass rush. He provided a solution. Poe struggled, yes, but the issue has been more so that Star hasn’t been replaced. Willams was loved in this board when resigned..it was worth the 6mil 1 year price if contract. Reid has been a good pickup..at a minimum he hits hard. Gaulden suck. Didn’t like pick at time. I still believe coaching has been the biggest problem.I think Hurney has made his mistakes..just think his second go around hasn’t been “terrible”.

Better question is how is it not his fault?

Who drafted the bulk of this team?

Who brought in the bulk of the FAs?

Who hired Ron? Who kept him employed?

Who allowed Ron to keep garbage staff?

This is hurney's team. No question.

Even if it's not all his fault, why not try to get someone better? Why not try to start off with a clean slate?

Because continuity? Lol give me a break. Give me more than the suck status quo.

Move forward.

That's really all there is to it.  Let's move along.

This was his and Ron's all in year to go for the Super Bowl.  I expected they did their homework on where Williams and Paradis both were post injury; not the case.  Once you find yourself dissecting pick by pick, move by move to justify why he shouldn't be let go, it only furthers the notion we need to move on.  There's SOOOOOO many minds out there in the NFL.  There is no reason to keep this guy.

Actually most of them, because they tended to build such sh-tty teams that they regularly had high draft picks.

Kinda like Marty...

Show me the players.

Won’t blame you (for obvious reasons) for forgetting the bust WRs drafted before selecting CJ.

True. But full disclosure, I thought he’d had a good off season. I wasn’t happy with us keeping him..more optimistic that he may be better ( for the teams sake ). I do believe he stays through this draft ..after that no clue

Ron's message was stale here, he will be successful the next place he goes. This team is not going to rally around a DB coach they KNOW will not be here in 2020. Hurney's backups had us at 5-3... You know who signed Kyle Allen? The man drafted Cam Newton, Luke Kuechly, Julius peppers.

Impressive, only going back to 2002 for those draft picks.

Those teams do exactly what Hurney does. They draft a few great players with their high draft picks and then surround them with C and D grade talent.

Granted, Hurney has done a little better job than those teams but he’s still bad.

    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
