How is this on Hurney?

He is getting fired. Fired from football operations.

everyone got their wish. I’m not sure what the debate is about.  Looking for another GM is Hurney being removed— ie FIRED in plain English.

If the organization wants to keep him in scouting then whatever.

As long as his role in scouting is used to determine precisely what NOT to do, then I'm fine with that.

Ron's message was stale here, he will be successful the next place he goes. This team is not going to rally around a DB coach they KNOW will not be here in 2020. Hurney's backups had us at 5-3... You know who signed Kyle Allen? The man drafted Cam Newton, Luke Kuechly, Julius peppers.

Heck Bill freaking Belihick traded a 2nd for Kony Ealy, GMs make mistakes. Kawaan and Poe are out for the year, essentially our starting line minus McCoy. He signed the best Center available to replace Kalil, Dayrl Williams has fallen from Grace coming back from an injury this year, it wasn't too long ago this fanbase was thrilled he was coming back early for the Dallas game...

Donte Jackson obviously has been vocal, but it's ok for Greg to call the whole organization a fail publicly. I don't believe in double standard, veteran or not.

This whole year has been a crapshow, I think you're going to see improvement just by this group of guys hearing a new voice. I'm not oppossed to Mike McCarthy for that reason, I think he had similar reasons to Rivera for getting fired, overstayed message. If Cam Newton comes back next year, we have a shot. I don't think now is the time to fire the GM for an obvious coaching issue. It's amazing Perry quit abusing CMC, another Ron issue, he was ok with running players in the ground.

If we suck in 2020, we can join the Trevor Lawrence race. Ultimately, I am ok with Hurney staying one more year. If Hurney is such a bad GM, why did Ron get no defense for having a terrible roster?

More importantly, why are you defending him and this product? His draft this year? Omg he drafted cam. He was the best player in that draft. Omg luke, best lb in that draft and no one else needed a lb ahead of us. You tepper aint u

List his great moves so far. He’s had 2 first round picks, 2 seconds and 4 thirds. Just based on odds, you should have 4-5 solid starters and probably 1 more from the other picks combined. What do we have right now?

We’ve spent a good amount of FA money on Paradis, Poe, McCoy, Smith, Irvin, Williams, Searcy and Cockrell. What have we gotten from that?

We resigned one player after redoing Short’s contract such that we likely have to pay him for another year wasting another $14M extra cap space. What was the point of the restructure other than to hamper our 2020 cap?

Our OL and DL are flooded with high priced contracts and not much young talent. What have we done to improve in both areas?

I think that's another one who has the weird notion that they should support Hurney because he drafted Cam. It's silly, but I see it a lot.

Basically, it's the same as saying that Russ Thomas was a great GM for the Lions because he drafted Barry Sanders while ignoring that he built a bunch of losing teams around Sanders.

Yep, genius Hurney found those gems late in the 3rd-4th rounds right?

Lolz, it’s not hard to draft great first round players when you are constantly putting together rosters that are netting you top 5 picks all the time.

His terrible drafting track record (outside those high 1st round picks) combined with his cap management, and bad free agency record are why he is so bad.

Lol. So true. If he truly bares no responsibility then clearly he’s not needed.

Exactly.  Trying to explain why us failing isn't somehow his fault isn't helping his case.  Gut this franchise Tepper.  GUT IT.

The talent is on the roster. Both lines definitely need to be rebuilt...but much like the fan base, I think coaching has been a bigger problem than draft picks.

Irvin was a solid pick up.

Poe was a solid pick up.

McCoy was a soldi pick up.

Paradis was a bad pick up..but next year will determine this fully.

Burns was a great pick.

Little, too early to tell.

Grier bad pick up.

Ian Thomas is a future starter.

Overall, Hurney isn’t “Great” but he’s not the primary reason this season tanked. Our medical staff and coaching staff APPROVED Cam Newton to come back. Big problem here. Ron’s refusal to play rookies has hurt us.

Hurney is a middle of the road GM. With a solid off season, we will be back on coarse.

Better question is how is it not his fault?

Who drafted the bulk of this team?

Who brought in the bulk of the FAs?

Who hired Ron? Who kept him employed?

Who allowed Ron to keep garbage staff?

This is hurney's team. No question.

Even if it's not all his fault, why not try to get someone better? Why not try to start off with a clean slate?

Because continuity? Lol give me a break. Give me more than the suck status quo.

Move forward.

Joe Thomas was drafted by Phil Savage.

Barry Sanders was drafted by Russ Thomas.

Calvin Johnson was drafted by Matt Millen.

All time great players, all of whom spent their careers on terrible teams because their GMs couldn't build anything around them.

But yeah, Marty's good :eyeroll:
