Ooh did not realize how much this brother preaches.  That is kind of nauseating but he's at least not as bad as Dabo (Who will and should forever stay in college football or a service center)

I don’t trust people who do what this dude does. They are stubborn and set in their ways. It’s a very hard pass from me.

I get that, and yes a college coach would be used to full power. Unfortunately, I think it's too much for a guy with very little pro experience to handle.

Rhule was an assistant offensive line coach - basically an assistant to an assistant - for one season (2012 with the Giants). Now he wants to be an NFL head coach with full control? Yikes!

If he got the job, we'd have to hope he really is as good as he believes he is, because otherwise that could be a Chip Kelly like disaster

That's always the risk with just about any college coach.

Mr Scot keeps mentioning this report that he wants total control.  The only thing I've seen is that he wants control over his coaching staff.  If there is a report that states otherwise I'd like to see it posted. Open to the possibility its true but hes got a history of repeating something over and over and referring to that as being a source.

Just curious, what's he do?  I've really only looked at him in the lens as the guy who fixed the Briles aftermath.  He just seems like an interesting risk for a rebuild but I will admit, I don't know about him more than what's been happening on the football field there.

Matt Rhule explains what it would take to lure him away from Baylor

Quote

What would it take to attract Matt Rhule to the NFL?

Or a bigger college football program for that matter?

Baylor’s head coach would want total control of the entire operation.

Quote

“I don’t think that I would ever want to see myself or any coach in a situation where you’re just subcontracted out for your X’s and O’s knowledge,” he said. “The teams that have won in college football — the Nick Sabans, the Dabo Swinneys — the people that win in pro football —the Mike Tomlins, the Bill Belichicks — they run a complete and total program.”

That sentiment would seem to negate Rhule being an option at with the Dallas Cowboys. And rumors of Rhule being a candidate for the New York Giants head coaching job have yet to gain much traction.

Rhule said he’s seen too many coaches getting fired after a year or two years at both the college and NFL level because they weren’t given enough control of the operation.

“That just means that the coach was brought in for his X’s and O’s. He was brought in for his play-calling, and that to me is not a recipe for success We’ve all seen how the best do it,” he said. “It’s a top to bottom comprehensive football program — not playbook — program.”

That interview was dated December 19th of this year, by the way.

Granted, knowing how you typically think, his own words might not be a good enough source for you, but I'm afraid it was the best I could do.

In a lot of ways he makes a good point about not wanting to get fired for the failings of others. I am sure most coaches would rather go out on their terms rather than be the victim of a piss poor front office.

Speaking of which.....

He’s a hardcore Christian. They call him reverend Rhule. He has an evangelical delivery schtick. I think that’s fine for college programs especially Baylor who needed a “cleanse” so to speak but pro athletes are gonna tune this dude the fug out.

To be fair, Baylor is a school that has a religious affiliation. Rhule is who he is, but I don't know that he'd definitely continue the religious emphasis as a pro coach.

The "total control" thing honestly scares me way more than that would.

I would tend to lean away from that kind of thing if he is ultra pushy about it, that is for sure. I am sure it goes over well in Texass but, as you said, dealing with adults it will work for some and be rather off putting for others.

That said, the one thing I would give that "preaching" crowd is that they are typically pretty charismatic. If he isn't too Jesus-y, I can definitely see that kind of fire and brimstone delivery working for coaching. Honestly, not too dissimilar from what you usually see.

I don’t think there’s any toning down. I think this is who he is. It’s mad corny and adults will see through it.
