Just looking at the Packers forums seems a lot of them feel like we did with Rivera, he’s a good coach that just wore out his welcome. They did all agree and say if anything McCarthy would be able to build a high powered offense.

Bring in a good defensive coach and assistant's....build all phases needed to suceed.

I agree. Problem is coaches bring in their own staff, qualified or not. If you look around at the most successful teams though they have at least two HC quality coaches on the staff. Either an up and coming or someone who has already been an HC (like we had with McCdermott).

However that’s a double edged sword because these guys get an HC offer and leave the HC is stuck having to hire an outsider or promote within and from what I’ve seen that rarely goes well unless there’s an excellent HC already in place (Belicheck). Plus it messes up the fluidity of the staff put in place which for a HC trying to prove himself would be a challenge.

I didn’t read the whole thread and not sure if it was posted but here’s the Packer forum thread when McCarthy was fired and the last pages about his reemergence. I found this thread way more enlightening with good info than any on McCarthy, if you want to really know what he’s about I suggest reading it:

FLASHBACK:   AARON RODGERS BELIEVED MIKE MCCARTHY HAD “LOWEST IQ” OF ANY COACH HE EVER HAD

Quote

“Mike has a low IQ, and that used to always bother Aaron,” this source says. “He’d say Mike has one of the lowest IQs, if not the lowest IQ, of any coach he’s ever had.”

for the record, Im all for hiring McCarthy

He had a lot of success in GB, and i think he had a hand in the "greatness" of Rodgers more than people think   I think he has a really good offensive system

plus, hes had a year to reflect on how to improve as a coach

First reaction was naaaaahhh

but intuitively I really think we could be very successful under McCarthy

Mike McCarthy is a closer. I’m sure he will go get an offensive coordinator that fits. I don’t know where people get all the too conservative stuff from. Green Bay was quite aggressive.

I would take him absolutely over 2 offensive coordinators that call great plays as OC but have no proven commodity at HC.
