Panthers have met with McCarthy twice

As much as we may hate the Patriots, I think our best option is Josh McDaniels if we can lure him away.

I'd rather have him than McCarthy. I don't really trust that McCarthy isn't the same guy that got run out of Green Bay. I understand that he's had some success, but his offense got kind of stale IMO. McDaniels, albeit not an as an HC, has really been creative, and hasn't even had the best talent IMO.

Having a change of heart a bit about McCarthy. If this means not having a total rebuilt and still being competitive, then ok.

He is proven and has a winning record. If he can hire good coaches to fill in the change, then fine. Don't see who else would be a proven NFL coach at this point to bring in. Maybe a qualified coordinator would be a choice, but still a roll of the dice...college HC even more so.

Can’t remember if this is from an Athletic article or somewhere else, but McCarthy currently has weekly meetings with 2 other coordinators who are former NFL coaches and they basically run meetings like they’re a coaching staff. Jim Haslett, Frank Cignetti Jr, and Scott McCurley. That’s a likely preview of who he’d bring with him as a staff.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mike McCarthey from 2009-2016 all winning seasons. ALL WINNING SEASONS. I will gladly take 7 straight years of winning seasons and 5 years of playoffs and one super bowl. Unless you guys want to have three years of rebuilding he is our best option. My opinion.

They won despite mccarthy and only have one ring. His teams never have defense or a running game. If he wants to go the baltimore route on offense and draft jalen hurts, its interesting

What would you guys say to McCarthy and Wade Philips as DC? He's at the end of his contract with the Rams and may not come back.

McCarthy's most likely DC pick would probably be Jim Haslett. He's one of the coaches that McCarthy has been working with.

The comparison that comes to mind for me is George Seifert.

Yep.  There are smart retread hires and then this...

It's usually when franchises who don't really know how to either rebuild or pivot. Seifert was basically Richardson looking around and like, "oh you, quiet old man, you have a ring, come right this way!"  We middled around doing nothing with Beurline for like 4 years until Weinke and 1-15 hit.   We don't need to have a bridge between our next legit contender phase, let's get this right.

I know and I already posted that a few minutes ago, but this is just a hypothetical pairing.

It's possible.

Another potential possibility would be Kris Richard. His contract is up in Dallas (just like Garrett's).

Heck, even Mike Zimmer is conceivable since apparently his contract is up too.

That'd be something to watch.
