I agree with your sentiment after watching the play about six times now, but with how the game is called today especially in regards to protecting the QB a defensive player has to go out of his way NOT to even give the refs a second thought about targeting.  It's just where we are due to "player safety."

So what the he11 do you suggest.  The guy came in for a clean hit and the QB lowered his head into the stroke zone.  Lawrence doesn't duck his head, Lawerence doesn't get hit from the neck up.

 

Its physics, he cant stop all your momentum a foot away from someone because they lower theor head last second.  Its physically impossible

I honestly didn't know much about him until recently, but I'm really fascinated by his size/athleticism/versatility.  But yes, you're probably right.  Although I don't think he's a tweener in the sense that he doesn't fit well at any spot, I actually think they move him around because he's so versatile that they play him where he can create an advantage, be it LB or corner.

But man, I really dont even know where we should start with our first pick.  OL or DL I guess.  But I think CB and S should be in consideration.  And that's assuming Cam is coming back.  If the franchise doesn't bring him back, then obviously, QB needs to be priority.

Lowering yourelf for a clean hit?

You clearly have never played tackle football in your life.  Had Lawerence not lowered his head.  No helmet contact, no contact to Lawrence's neck and above etc.

I think he's a Brian Urlacher type hybrid who'd be great as a mlb. He's like a bigger Jamal Adams or Derwin James in that he'll wear a lot of hats and is a great athlete who can cover ground.

Dude players have been tossed for less. I called targeting sitting on my couch stuffing ice cream into my mouth. He comes in and lowers his helmet and goes info the kill. He was probably trying to knock Lawrence out of the game. If a defensive player leads with the helmet and hits anyone especially a QB above the shoulders, he is gonna get ejected. The smart defensive players understand this and adapt.

Agree. Thought it was the right call but also think the rule is flawed.   The review “should” account for unavoidable contact such as this.  I think it needs tweaking. Never going to be perfect but I hate to see a kid get ejected for something like that

Look, I hate Ohio State as much as anybody.  But anyone who knows football with no tinted glasses could tell you that was a horrible call

He lead with the crown of his helmet, it doesn’t matter was the Lawerence did.

Yeah, I blame the rule more so than the application in this case. I get the intention of the rule and it's a slippery slope trying to officiate intent as a referee, but it's bullshit seeing a guy get tossed and a game changing penalty enforced on a hit that wasn't intentional targeting. Had Lawrence not ducked he was going to be hit in the midsection/chest area.
