Sounds like Olsen wants no part of a total rebuild

I get the logic. I just don't think Olsen gives a sh-t.

The way he whined about his latest deal and ended up getting his way?  I'm trying to remember all the details, but wasn't he and Gettleman butting heads on an extension because Dave wasn't budging on the numbers and Greg felt low-balled?  Greg then ran to JR to intervene on his behalf.  It went something like that.

At any rate, yes, he should give a crap for all this organization has done for him.  Bailing on his last year because he's not feeling it is truly crap.

Again, I can understand that. But given his recent comments, I'd say it's pretty clear he's not overly concerned with what happens to us after he's gone.

He wanted an extension as he only had 1 year left on his deal.  DG held firm, as you should with aging vets and told him to play out his deal....Greg went to Jerry....and now we have Marty again.

Extending Greg was one of Hurney's first mistakes.

I totally get what you are saying, but I've always thought of Greg as a stand up guy.  This is a chicken sh-t ploy and if the team still needs/wants his services next season, the Greg I know (obviously not personally) would oblige.  That kind of behavior is not something a 2x time Walter Peyton Man of the Year finalist would do.  And yes, I would think a heck of lot less of Greg Olsen. I know your retort, he could care less about what the fans think.  To that I would say he's a fake, a fraud and the good guy act was all a front.

This is football, not Boy Scouts.

This team, nor Greg owe each other anything.  He has children, dreams of being in the booth, tons of money in the bank, and just had a concussion.  What if he went down with an Alex Smith type injury, a Oher concussion injury that keeps him on meds all the time?

If Greg leaves, and he is, wish him well, thank him, and hope that he stays in Charlotte.  That's about all you can do.

Okay, I was in the ballpark on my recollection.  So Greg is essentially why we have Marty back and DG got canned.  For that kind of organizational upheaval,  Greg sure a heck owes it to the Panthers to play out the final year of this deal!

Olsen does seem to be an overall good guy, but I'm not so sure he's the saint that some people make him out to be.

People have a tendency to idealize figures that have been through personal tragedies and struggles, but Olsen is human. Like all of us, he has his flaws.

Eh, it's not about any of that ultimately.  This is about Cam and him playing out their final year here and if Cam is gone Greg wants to take his ball to the house.  That's my point.  It's his way or the highway.  Again, that's not the Greg Olsen I thought I knew.

If he does retire or ask for a trade, I will wish him well also, but his legacy...to me at least, will be tainted.

It was his way or the highway for DG.  His way or he would retire and go into the booth.

Love Olsen, but he's no saint, and shouldn't be considered so.  As has been said many times....football is a business.

And it ain't good business to bring Olsen back, unfortunately.

Agreed the cap figure is high, but as I stated before, I don't Ian Thomas is ready or really ever will be.  Unless we go out in FA and pay another #1 caliber TE starting money, then Greg can't be replaced next year.  If you think we are in full rebuild mode, then yes, blow the whole thing up and free up as much cap space as possible.  Me, on the other hand, think it's more of a retooling and a strategic reshuffling of the roster over the next couple of seasons which can yield a quick rebound.
