My first thought as well. Cant blame him for not wanting to deal with this season all over again at the point of his career he is in.

He'll be 35 in March.  Realizing maybe he has a year or two left, who could blame him for not wanting to spend them on the front end of a rebuild.  First, he is probably going to be a casualty of it, and second, even if he is not, he won't see the fruits of it, anyway.  Only the misery.
