Trading up for Greg Little sucked and I wasn’t crazy about it on draft day. Has Marty ever won a draft-day trade when we traded up? Trading down has worked (2007), but when has trading up worked?

Trading up is most often the bad move in draft day trades. The draft is some part crap shoot, so the best overall approach is to give yourself as many lottery tickets as possible. Trading up almost always involves giving up more picks than you get back.

oh gee, if only someone would’ve warned the board that just throwing a bunch of money at a guy coming off an injury and anointing him the starter-to-be after your stalwart center leaves the organization wasn’t a foolhardy plan, maybe that would’ve saved you guys a bunch of disappointment

oh wait i can remember saying exactly that  during the summer. what a slam dunk of an FA move.

Paradis has been a huge disappointment but signing the top rated free agent center to a contract that doesn't even pay him top 10 center money with an easy out after 2 years didn't look like a terrible decision at the time. But it's a damn shame Paradis came back from his injury as a shell of himself. I think at minimum we should draft a center with a mid round pick and open competition in training camp with a low threshold to cut ties even though it won't save us much.

The other aspect of this tweet that deserves attention is the fact that Nate Solder has been awful himself. This is the same Nate Solder who was the consensus prize free agent left tackle in 2018 and got a contract paying him over 15 million per year. Let that be a word of caution for the huge swath of huddlers that are so desperate for us to go out and spend a fortune on a free agent LT this offseason. We could be having this same thread about that person next year.

Yes

many cautionary tales of free agents and the Panthers don’t learn it...ever.

go get young players....smaller contracts.  Less risk   Do what the Pats do (and the Seahawks) and move them at prime with draft picks

There were plenty that were preaching caution on Nate Solder. I can remember sports bobble heads and other media questioning the size of that contract.

The people questioning the Paradis move were a much smaller minority, IIRC.

In the end, I guess it doesn't really matter. He is terrible and we need to get a replacement in the offseason.
