Is it a given Hurney will be back?

Same here, although Hurney might keep the GM title, but no longer being the primary decision maker when it comes to personnel.

I'm still a little puzzled about Tepper making the comment that he "didn't want to lose" Marty.

It was kind of strange to hear the guy who's, you know, in charge of everything, sounding as if something were out of his control. But there are a couple of scenarios where that could make sense.

The first would be internal strife:

One of our resident insiders has suggested that team president Tom Glick is not the world's biggest Marty Hurney fan (wouldn't be a huge shock given that Glick is probably used to working with people who are actually good at their job). If that's true, there could be a bit of a power struggle going on, one that David Tepper would ultimately have to mediate.

The other possibility lies with Marty himself.

There's a lot of talk that Tepper wants to reduce Hurney's role, but no real discussion about whether Marty is agreeable to that. It's assumed, but what if he isn't? In such a case, tendering his resignation at a time when Tepper's preferred candidates aren't necessarily available could put the team in a bit of a bind.

Either way, lots of people believe Marty's days of total control are about to come to an end.

And frankly, it can't happen soon enough.

Keep in mind, I’m not doing any reporting here. I’m just speculating. They may have a viable, constructive plan in place to hire a new head coach. I don’t trust any owner to make that decision without a lot of good consultation. From, you know, good football people.

I’m just trying to figure out who those good football people are.

Worth remembering Tepper has said the new head coach will have input on who gets the new front office position.

That sounds like a bit of an uncomfortable discussion if Marty were in the room.
