I am quite uneasy with a David Tepper/Marty Hurney tandem leading the search for the next HC.

That may be unpopular, but I don’t care.

Also, if anybody else has any inside information to the contrary, I’d love to hear it. So far, I’ve been told it’s Dave/Marty steering the ship.

I’m sure they’ll bring in a competent executive at some point. But the HC hire is a big one.

I take it from teppers original comments and the modified ones that he wants Hurney in draft capacity only. I highly doubt from what we’ve heard that Hurney will have any say in who will be the next HC. That’s all on Tepper I get the feeling.

Tepper has to realize that if he is waiting for HIS GM if that GM doesn’t like the coaching choice we’ll have another massive turnover. Unless that coaching choice comes from Tepper himself overtly.

Your comments do worry me though even more.

Keep in mind, I’m not doing any reporting here. I’m just speculating. They may have a viable, constructive plan in place to hire a new head coach. I don’t trust any owner to make that decision without a lot of good consultation. From, you know, good football people.

I’m just trying to figure out who those good football people are.

I am just trying to believe Tepper has people around him that aren’t going to believe hurneys “I had a good roster, they all just ended up on IR”.

If there’s one thing Gettleman did better than Hurney in even the anti-Gettleman minds was put together half decent depth and make moves when they needed to be made to correct injuries.

I mean Hurney basically didn’t even try to refill a position when they went down to injury this year.

I’d be ok with Hurney drafting round one, but not the rest of the board. I’d really like to see a GM/Director of personnel that is above him if for what ever reason Tepper wants to keep him around.

I’d say Hurney “bought into” analytics whereas Rivera didn’t. One of them had to go, one supported Tepper. One didn’t.

Like you said, I’m even more removed than you and this is all just pure speculation.

The only thing I know for sure is this year’s roster was even worse than last years and it’s trending downward.

Its also pretty clear Reid, McCoy, Djax among others have been playing with substantial  injuries, Reid and McCoy have been going down a lot.

Also CMC’s 1,000/1,000.

Small victories.

I do wonder which TB alt that was. Either way. Thanks good sir.

There was this dude who posted here under the username coralreefer (a Jimmy Buffett reference) who had a bunch of dumb/weird takes that made no sense and would argue with you to the death over literally nothing like this guy would.  The posting styles are similar, and DominoCollege is also a Jimmy Buffett reference.  So I'd hazard a guess that it's the same guy using a VPN or something.

I forgot about that guy. Yeah, could have been him

The biggest positive so far in regards to the Hurney problem is that we haven't seen a contract extension. That would be the outright commitment to staying the course. Until then, there is always hope this team could finally learn from years of mistakes and mismanagement. Unfortunately, billionaire owners like to keep people around that fulfill other needs and not good football people.

Tepper is an extraordinarily smart guy who has devoted himself to his sports operations full-time...he doesn't need a lot of hand-holding.

For Tepper this is simply another business, football just happens to be the product.

Unfortunately we’re stuck with Hurney until at least after the draft unless Tepper is comfy with not having a GM around.

Im thinking that Tepper’s plan for Hurney if he keeps him long term is to concentrate strictly on college evals( why I don’t know) and get someone else as a FT GM.

Personally I’m not comfortable with Hurney still being allowed in the building.

Hurney is worth keeping around for transition. Maybe longer in a diminished or consulting role. Love him or hate him he has a ton of institutional knowledge.

Hurney is smart. He didn't clean house because that would be getting rid of a ton of experience. He needed that to see what works and doesn't. When a CEO comes in and axes everyone it rarely works. Kills morale, momentum and creates tons of useless work. Unless you are gutting the company anyway.

BBBY just did it...

Only concern about the coaching hire, the roster talent wise imo, would have been a playoff team barring multiple injuries to your franchise qb.

i don’t think that point can be stressed enough.

the key is having a coach that will maximize talent, develop players, and doesn’t play favorites.

even more concerning is who the hc staff will be, as we see, can’t have a bunch of buds as coordinators
