Is it a given Hurney will be back?

Tepper made a comment about Hurney's (cough cough gag gag) talent evaluation which could imply that he'll be back.

Seems many believe he will be back because of the draft posts I've read lately.

IMO Tepper needs to move on from everything associated with Richardson. Hurney has always picked well in the first round but after that questionable is the word to describe Hurney

I agree, but i didnt pay billions of dollars for the franchise.  My opinion means nothing, only Tepper knows what will happen with Marty

Can't remember if this expression exist in English, but literal translation from Swedish world "Canned up och to the side".

That's what Tepper sounded like he was trying to do.

The problem is you can't get an GM first and a HC later because all good once will be hired the first week.

They got McCarthy in because he is unemployed.  I would not be surprised if they fire Hurney on black Monday.

I would not be surprised if Tepper conducted the HC interviews himself because as you said if they wait they'll lose a good coach. Then again he might already have someone in mind.

Good, Bad or indifferent Tepper needs to cut ties with the old regime.  Hurney might a great talent evaluator but that doesn't mean he'll be a great drafter.

Hurney will be here through this next draft. All possible GM candidates are under contract until after the draft. Firing Hurn now would mean going into the draft without a GM.

Tepper said he is conducting the coach search himself with the help of others in the panthers organization. Hurn was NOT mentioned as one of those people.

Even if Hurn stays, his role will change due to the new COO and assistant GM positions being created.

To sum it up, I think Hurn is still here because Tepper can’t get the guy he wants until after the draft. The “greatest talent evaluator” comment was just Tepper pumping Hurney up. You don’t want a guy in a key position like that Mentally checking out because he thinks he’s weeks away from being fired.

Hurney isn't, and wasn't that bad. Some folks have obviously never been in a management position.  You dont make that level of money and job title over decades is you are not performing.

And THIS point is what fans dont get. GM job is to manage the organization that is making the owner MONEY!  That is the job. Too many people have it confused that win = money.  No  way! Our organization has been losing more than winning....but the BUSINESS made money.

Dont hate on Hurney because the team sucks. That's not his job. His job was in the past, and will be now to make the owner MONEY. JR wasnt forced out as a poor man. I wont google the numbers but he came out in the green by a lot. Same with Tepper. Homers here thought an owner cared about wins? LOL...he cares about money and so far even int he worst season in years...hes making money!

Sanjay, is that you

you must not understand the job which is the topic of this thread.  I can't blame you however as few seem to grasp a GM's job is to make the owner money. Coaches make their name and resume on wins.  GM's make their name and resume on how much the owner made.

It is sad how few realize this

That's great but generally that's not what fans want or give a poo about, hence the rancor about Hurney possibly sticking around.  If the sole purpose of a GM is to make money than why was he fired the first time?  If he did such a great job making Jerry Richardson money (I don't know how reliable this site is but the value of the franchise roughly doubled from the start of his tenure to 2012) why wasn't he hired to another GM gig?  I'm sure he would have rather done that than talk radio.

Maybe you're confused and think this is a fantasy management forum where we get all wound up and excited over balance sheets.
