Good Read: Draftnetworks Joe Marino. How we got here and how to fix it.

It's a nice article, but offers little in terms of "fixing" the Panthers. They'd have to be a lot more radical in their moves to do that. Re-sign Tre Boston? Uhhh, no thanks. Draft a 2nd day QB? Been there; done that. Draft a project OT?

The Panthers need major surgery. The article is offering a band-aid and a cup of hot chocolate.

I don't know that Tre Boston is the answer at FS.  I do not see the instincts.  He got lucky with a few errant passes that stuck in his facemask this year, making him seem to be a ball hawk--on 2 picks, he was out of position.

I think we need to go after OL and DL, including drafting a player that can help up front.  I like the plan of sticking with Cam and drafting a second round QB, which means you better hire a head coach with a track record for developing QBs.  McCarthy could be that guy---a lot on here despise him, but winning in the NFL is not easy--he has done that.  I like what Stephanski has done with Cousins and RB Cook-he is the dark horse.   Expect Tepper to make a splash---

It is starting to look as if we need an outside CB.  We need 2 DTs.  We need an edge/DE.  We need a C.  We need a S.  We could use a G.  We could use a WR.  We could use a QB.  Other than that, we are good.  Oh, and  a TE.

That was a great draft they mocked for us. Heavily invested in the trenches plus added a high level potential QB(finally). I think taking a flyer on DJ might not be a bad idea for a low investment price. He's definitely a player that has a long, long injury history, so that is a big red flag.

I think we definitely need to make a marked improvement at LT this offseason. I am in favor of getting a guy like Whitworth(FA and his old ass is still playing at a high level). If we can eek out two seasons of solid LT play, perhaps we can stabilize that whole offensive line and let Little potentially develop or buy us time to find a new prospect there.

I agree. I like the idea of getting Humphries from Ariz.  Move Little inside to G where he and Van Roten can compete.

I also want to see C addressed.

However, if you forget C for now, a first round LT, second rounder at LG, a third rounder (former pro bowler) at RG, and second rounder at RT---that is not neglecting the OL.  If they all pan out, we could have something.

Good articles but were not too good.

HOW WE GOT HERE

-JR re-hiring Hurney

-Rivera’s stubbornness to adapt to the new NFL offensive style

-Tepper’s lack of concern about the Panthers and more so on MLS

-Keeping KK over Star

-Rivera’s unwillingness to upgrade the secondary

HOW TO FIX IT

-Hire Roman, Saleh or Riley for HC

-Hire Nick Caserio for GM

-Trade Cam

-Find a way to draft Tua before the Chargers do

-Fix the DL

-Find the #2 wr

Whitney Mercilus (TDN Analyst Kyle Crabbs)

With Bruce Irvin a free agent, Carolina will be looking for an opposite rusher to Brian Burns and Whitney Mercilus’ experience in a multi-front defenses makes him an ideal target. Mercilus has been a consistent rusher for the Houston Texans and racked up 7 1/2 sacks this season. At 29 years old, he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.

Sounds like a good fit...

D.J. Humphries (TDN Analyst Joe Marino)

D.J. Humphries battled injuries in 2017 and 2018 but has played 100 percent of the snaps for the Cardinals in 2019 and is enjoying the best season of his career by recapturing the promise of his rookie campaign. A first-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2016, Humphries can return to Charlotte where he grew up. He could finally be the long-term answer at left tackle.

This guy any good?

One thing that *might* be overlooked is, the Panthers are playing way below their talent level. We don't know what it's like to have coaches that can actually develop players. Maybe bringing in a new coaching staff can get more out of the talent that is already here. Who knows. But the Panthers that are playing now are not as bad as their effort is showing. We need to plug quite a few holes, but maybe the coaching helps to plug some of them along the way.

I hate the idea of hiring McCarthy

I don't love it either.  I never thought he was particularly good at adjustments in game.

I do think he would likely coach the team to competitiveness again.  I also like that he talks like hes learned from his first HC stint.

I'm warming to the idea, but still would prefer one of the OCs.

Yea it’s not that I think the Panthers would be bad with him as head coach, it just feels like a “safe” hire. I feel like we would make the playoffs in a couple years but not be the type of team that gets to the top of the mountain. McCarthy has been there done that and I don’t know if he would have the same fire in his belly as someone who hadn’t.
