What an amazing selection of years to fit your narrative.  McCarthy total record

125–77–2 (.618).  That is pretty damn good.

From 2007 - 2016 he missed the playoffs 1 time.  Also, won a Super Bowl in there.

I don't have a narrative and would never discount his total record.

I just picked every year McCarthy and Rivera coached in the league together aside from Ron's 1st season. Since the first seasons is usually rough.

The one thing I find interesting is that Tepper claimed he fired Rivera to go ahead and get a head start on the search. Three weeks later, the only firm news we've heard on this search is that Mike McCarthy has been interviewed.

Not too concern about this right now. Tepper can't request interviews for employed coordinators until like next Monday. Only thing we would have heard would have been college candidates. If next Tuesday rolls around, and it's still crickets, I'll be concerned. Hopefully, he's got any necessary vetting done.

People who thought Rivera shouldn't have been fired would like this hire. TV analysts would love this hire, I don't doubt.

Me? I wouldn't yell or scream but it would get an uninspired "blah". For the report that Tepper would go "outside the box" for this hire, McCarthy would the most inside the box hire possible. For once, I wish the Carolina brass would try something different. This hire would be right along the company line.

I won't potentially be concerned until a hire is made, but I said when Tepper was fired that the only coaches we could immediately entertain would be college coaches or currently unemployed NFL coaches. With no news to indicate otherwise, it seems like college coaches are pretty much out.

If it's going to be McCarthy, I expect an announcement soon. Like next week soon.

Do you expect him to give weekly updates on what they are doing? Some if yall are expecting completely un reasonable things and are really unrealistic.

My thought on that is, if you gotta hire people to update your playbook and coaching technique instead of just watching, learning and adapting........WTF?

Edit: And let me say that I will at least give him credit for recognizing that he needed to do this. It's also really hard for me to take away that he is a great offensive mind when he needs other minds to tell him how to adapt.

There are clinics held across the US where people pay to hear other coaches speak about different topics. For example, Glazier Clinics. Nike has a clinic they do with the top dogs in the business. All McCarthy is doing is bringing the clinics to him. It's not out of the ordinary. And yes, college coaches and NFL coaches go to these events.

When’s the last time you sat back and said to yourself “man you know, Mike McCarthy’s game management/strategy/play design/play calling was the winning edge that day.”

fuging never ever.

The only thing he had going for him were two HoF qbs at the helm during his tenure.   Both of which were masters of improv.

Again

Id shockingly be fine with him.  As long as he puts the right staff around him.  And we get a competent GM and not let Marty handle any decisions (Draft, FA, etc)

Coaching retreads aren't always a bad thing.  Bill Belichick was one, Andy Reid (who's situation was Very Very similar to Mike's) was one.

There are a few good reads out there (1 linked in this thread) on McCarthy.  Showing how he's prepping to come bsck into the league.  Showing how he's set back while he's been unemployed to study the way the NFL is going studying the Analytics etc and admitting he needs to improve in that are.

Really he wouldn't be a bad hire, if we get a good GM and DC to pair with him.
