If Tepper is true to his word about Hurney

So if all the love that Tepper spews about Hurney and does retain him, how will you feel about this team?

Being a fan for so long and knowing that Hurney will be handling the draft and other franchise decisions, just leaves me disgusted.

I will have little hope for the future of this team long term and honestly, don't know if I can handle that as a fan and remain loyal to this poo show that he will be involved with.

How do you all feel about this team with Hurney?

We are going to be bad for a long time. The new jaguars. Can't wait.

Tepper is now focused on Soccer.

that’s why he plans to retain Hurney. It’s the safe plan and he knows we should get at least 1x good draft pick out of him.

The moment we fired Gettleman (I know - not trying to re-litigate it) and re-hired Hurney as an "interim" was the most demoralizing thing I've experienced as a Panthers fan. Worse than SB50 (which I attended) or the 08 Cardinals game. Because it isn't just one game or one season; it's a mindset that will effect the franchise for years to come. And so far it has resulted in two seasons with 7+ losses in a row. Embarrassing.

The only thing I really feel comfortable saying about Tepper's relationship with Marty is that he likes him personally. How he feels about him professionally is... muddled.

You had him say "he's an incredible... well, let's not give him that much of a compliment" drafter while also describing him as "not a bad" general manager. He later made the "best recognizer of college talent" comment almost as if he was making up for his earlier words.

Yet during that same interview, he mentioned that Marty is getting more "senior" and seemed  open to the idea that the next person he hired might be "a potential GM". Additionally, Tepper said some things that would indicate he'd be handing some duties off to his new hire (specifically, things related to pro scouting).

What I found really weird though were his comments about how he "didn't want to lose him". You're the guy that makes that decision, buddy. Why would that be an issue?

That is, unless there are people or forces that are pushing in a different direction.

Bottom line: I don't know what's going to happen, but it sure feels like Marty's days as a full power GM are over.

Whether he remains with the team as a glorified college scouting guy - or even remains with the team at all - feels like it's kind of up in the air.

The reaction around the league was just pure disbelief.  It was surreal.

Tepper knows the main draw will always be the Panthers...Arthur Blank and the Falcons are prime example of what happens when you ignore the bell cow.

His people he wants are under contract with teams right NOW but give it time.

Yep.

It's pretty common for fired GM's to get a personnel job somewhere else, and it doesn't often take that long.

Nobody else interviewed Marty to be a GM, to be a director of personnel, to be a college scouting director, hell to even be a scout.

But of course, Jerry Richardson :eyeroll:

If Tepper wants Caserio or Colbert, then barring a surprise, he'll have no choice but to wait until after the next draft.

If he wanted to go with somebody different (and there are good options) then he could hire somebody sooner.

I think ultimately it's the only reason Hurney didn't lose his job with Rivera.

All will depend on who HC is and who are his OC and DC...
