Draft Position

Shocker

I’m good with the 8th pick. We just need to lose to stay pretty. It’ll just be cherry on the top if Jaguars and Chargers can lose next weekend

Pretty much, I think the highest we can go is 6th pick of the Jags and Chargers win their last game.

I guess the Jags could be the Colts, but it's a bit much asking the Chargers to beat the Cheifs .

Maybe, but I'd be shocked if they lose. Honestly, draft pick wise, we have done about as well as can be expected. Jets beating the Steelers and Arizona beating Seattle (they got the ball at Seattle 35 after turnover on downs, up 14) are two results that we sure weren't banking on even if the Chargers sucked. We will be 8th after today and have a legit shot at 7th. Last week we were 12th, that's the opposite of last year.

Please, please, please get rid of Hurney and bring in a competent GM. It's been well over a decade since Hurney has had a draft with more than 2 good players and most with just 1 good player. I don't care about the 1st round hit rate, it doesn't make a playoff team. The Saints turned it around by drafting well after the first along with good 1st round picks. They didn't have a 1st or 3rd and still out-drafted us and we had 2 3rds and picked earlier in each round. SMH.

I suspected that a lot of this board's criticism of Hurney stemmed from an erroneous perception of how many starters good teams pulled out of the draft, and I'm glad to see somebody admit it as we head into draft season so I can axe grind about it

also lol at this argument, it's like blaming Julius pepper for not getting to Peyton Manning more during the super bowl

Well we were looking at 15/16 with the same outcome so I’ll take it. And if we truly believe our guy is in top 5 at least now it’s feasible to trade up and not give away everything.

Of course it is Hurney so not sure how viable that is.

At one point I trusted hurney on draft day. I don’t trust any person in any leadership role on this franchise now.

the fact that Hernia is still going to be associated with this team...in any capacity makes my skin crawl. the one single common denominator in mediocrity and  consistent suckage...it makes me leary of Moneys decision making....

I would think at the 8th spot we would have a shot at Tua if he slips a few spots.

With the hip injury he might. Just good to have some options. Our future depends a lot on this upcoming draft. We just don't the talent to whiff on this draft and still win with what we have.

We can't go wrong with any of the following (my fear:  Justin Herbert will be on the board):

  • Burrow (Bengals)
  • Chase Young (Skins?)
  • Andrew Thomas (Detroit?)
  • Jeffrey Okudah (CB)
  • Derrick Brown (DT)
  • Jerry Jeudy (WR)
  • Tua Tagovailoa (QB--Miami at #5 is the critical position)

If we pick 8th, which is starting to look realistic, these players could be gone by our selection. However, if any of them are there, I would take him.

Not sure if Miami will draft a QB. People forget they will have a boatload of money to spend in FA and they are in a nice location like South Beach.

They could throw money at Bridgewater and go in a different direction in the draft.

    • When we drafted Luke, we already had Cam, Smith, Olsen, Stewart, Deangleo, Gross, Kalil, CJ, Hardy, Beason, TD, Gamble (and maybe more I'm forgetting), we had a lot of great pieces in place. Going pure BPA for a player with Luke's potential when the LB you already have is different when you already have all those pieces in place.  Our OL right now is probably in a better shape than that team and our RBs and TE have potential compared to proven vets back then, but after that, the 2012 roster was in a far better shape than we are right now. We need a #1 WR, DEs, LBs, DBs, C, and depending who you ask a QB.  Going BPA at pick #5 when that player is a DT and your current best player on either side of the ball is a DT, seems irresponsible. If he's the only player they like that high left, then you trade back and go with position of more need at a slot that makes sense for the player while adding other picks.  If you trade back and he falls because other teams don't need/want a DT, then you consider him at that point because of the value.
    • This sounds like the same back and forth when we drafted a LB when we already had a LB or as mentioned prior back to back DLs. I want the BPA, if it is another DT so be it. (No not a kicker/punter for those people that think they are funny))
