Cam in Las Vegas playing for Gruden and the storied, bad boy Raiders...Not gonna lie, that would make for quite the NFL story that we haven't seen in forever.

Carr here? Interesting!

Cam on the Vegas Raiders under Gruden sounds almost too interesting haha

When was the last time a mobile, running QB won a Super Bowl?  (A: Never).

Russell Wilson a few years ago

He was not as good of a pocker passer that year and rushed for like 700 yards

Since then, he's gotten older and become more of a pocket passer, but was certainly a running qb the year they won

If it were to happen, people would probably highlight the story of how they met on Gruden's "QB Camp" show and now were working together all these years later.

Mind you, Newton's not necessarily well suited to the kind of offense that Gruden runs, but he does have some qualities that fit, mobility especially (assuming he still has that).

Why are the Raiders giving up on him if he's a franchise QB worth building around? He'll be 29 next year with a 21.5 million dollar cap hit.

Don't see the argument for this possible move if you are against keeping Cam for one more year at 19 million.

It’s the raiders man stop trying to find the logic.

I’d rather take Cam too. And if not I’d rather draft someone next couple years than pick up Carr.

That said those saying they want Winston I’d most definitely take Carr over Winston. Winston has had all the help in the world. Carr has been shat on.

One of the harder positions to fill in professional sports. Cam has transitioned into a pocket passer and before going out last year had the best completion percentage of his career.

Being hasty and jumping into the abyss of the unknown vs the known would not be wise either. Not if you're trying to win in the NFL.

It is hard to say about the pocket because he has never had WRs who could get open and a line that could block at the same time.  The best of Cam's career is still unimpressive when compared to a Brees, Brady, Rodgers, etc. in terms of accuracy.

When you are a high school coach and you can win with a running qb--you run the qb.  In College, if you can win running the QB--run the qb--use his natural ability.  Cam knows to trust that ability and knows the option is always there.  How do you take that out of his mindset--the thing that made him great is now discouraged?  I dunno.

I want Cam to have a long, healthy, accurate career in Charlotte, but I see that as improbable--people call me hater etc. but it is not an emotional reaction to the situation--it is data-driven and logical.  That does not make me right---but I won't cherry pick stats to make me feel better about my opinion.  We lose Cam, we lose the face of the franchise--our identity.  We better have a solid plan B.

Forgot about Russell Wilson, but he is a good example of a qb evolving.   Look at him now--311 yards.

Through the 6-2 start Cam had 67.5% completion percentage.

Drew Brees is 67.6 career.  His last few years have actually been $$.  Fortunately, we don't need Newton to be one of the best passing QBs to ever play.

Brady has had one year over 67.5% in his entire career.

 Rodgers.  64.7%.  63.3, 62,3, 64.7, 65.7, 60.7, 65.6, 66.6, 67.2.  Those are his 2012-2019 years.

About Cam's health:

It may not matter that much.  He is a mobile, running QB who will be 31.  Few reach 30, and only a few of those reach 35 with any degree of success.  When was the last time a mobile, running QB won a Super Bowl?  (A: Never).  Randall Cunningham, Steve Young, John Elway, and Mark Brunell all were running QBs to a degree at one time, but they evolved so that they could be successful in their mid thirties.  Young and Elway won rings, but not as running qbs--and I would argue that their skills as a pocket passing QB were much better than Cam's are now.  Cunningham actually sat out a year and went to Minnesota where he had a brief career reboot--this time, as a pocket passer for the most part.  He threw a pretty ball.

So what are you asking for if you want a healthy Cam Newton?  A qb who has not developed into the pocket passers described above.  A QB who does not read defenses as well as the group just mentioned, and a QB that has taken more hits than any other QB in league history.  And some here want to lock him down for the next five or six years.

I do not see the smarts behind that.  Your loyalty is admirable, but the window (odds for success) is closing, not opening.

A bit dated, but this article in BR (2012) explains it fairly well. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1341347-why-mobile-qbs-only-have-a-short-window-to-achieve-nfl-greatness

Young won the super bowl being a runner. He had 50 yards in the nfcc and a td and 50 yards in the Super Bowl. It was absolutely apart of his game, as well as being elusive in the pocket. So yes running qbs have won Super Bowls.
