Raiders moving on from Carr

His head coach doesn't see enough "high end upside" for the price tag sounds to be about the gist of it. So basically buyers remorse. Seems to be a lot of that these days with the drama of the neverending quarterback carousel in the NFL. Maybe there is something the Panthers could learn from watching this unfold?

Are you in favor of kicking the tires on Carr? I'd rather look to the draft than hitch our wagon to a 100 million dollar quarterback whose team has already given up on him before he's reached 30.

Lots of reading comprehension issues in many of the posts.

1. I made it pretty clear I was in favor of keeping Cam. The premise (look it up) is what would happen if an agreement couldn't be reached?

2. The article says that Gruden wants a QB who can extend plays. Carr can move when needed, but he is much more of a classic pocket-passer. It's not "buyer's remorse" and the team hasn't "already given up on him" as they did give him a nice contract extension before Gruden arrived. Gruden simply wants a different style QB.

Good. Grief.

Carr is QB purgatory IMO. Not good enough to compete for Super Bowls, but good enough to keep you from getting into draft position to land his replacement.

I think he's about the 11th best QB in the NFL, and has never had good coaches or weapons around him

Ideally you'd want a top 5 QB, but you can spend decades searching for a top 5 QB and will probably never get one.  We were incredibly lucky with Cam.  Even if you draft a QB in the top 5, the last decade has shown that QB will probably bust.

Would you want Kirk Cousins, or would you have wanted him when he became available in 2018?

He can’t push the ball downfield. He’s basically a more solid Kyle Allen.

We're just talking here, these are all hypothetical scenarios. You brought this conversation up, so why are you so defensive?

The odds of Cam returning to his glory days of extending plays and bullying defenses as a rusher are pretty much over, even the staunchest Cam homers know this.

So with that in mind, if any head coach out there is willing to kick his 28 year old hundred million dollar QB to the curb in favor of a recovering Cam Newton, that tells me maybe we need to tread very carefully considering our next move at QB.

Cam in Las Vegas playing for Gruden and the storied, bad boy Raiders...Not gonna lie, that would make for quite the NFL story that we haven't seen in forever.

Even better story: How Jon Gruden gained the reputation for being a "quarterback guru".

That's a mystery I'd absolutely love to see someone solve.

Derek Carr has a 70% completion percentage and 100 rating despite his best wide receivers being Tyrell Williams and Hunter Renfrow

Pro Football Focus rates him as the 7th best QB in the NFL.  He has certain limitations, but in the right scheme, can win you a Super Bowl.  DVOA has the Raiders with the 10th best passing offense in the NFL this year despite having terrible skill players.

I wouldn't take Gruden's QB evaluation or general strategy very seriously.

The Kyle Allen comparison is basically just that they're both boring looking white guys who weren't drafted in the 1st round.

One is extremely accurate and rarely turns the ball over, whereas the other one is inaccurate and a turnover machine.

Moving on as in releasing him to free agency?  No way I would trade for him.  If we move on from Cam, in my opinion we are definitely looking for a stop gap. (Unless Grier shows us something)  Tom Brady might be available for us.  I wouldn't mind giving Eli a shot.  If Carr enters free agency, maybe, depending on his price point.
