Raiders moving on from Carr

James La Canfora]

Gruden and Carr have a solid relationship, the sources said, but there are concerns about not extending plays with the legs when possible, and Oakland has also struggled to push the ball downfield. Carr has been quite accurate -- completing 70 percent of his passes -- but the bulk of the work goes to tight ends and running backs, and he isn't by nature a gunslinger or a big-time playmaker; those characteristics resonate heavily with Gruden.

Seems like a natural fit for a Newton/Carr swap IF the Panthers and Cam are unable to reach an agreement (for the record, I hope they do). Gruden likes his vets and Cam seems to check all the boxes.

For the Panthers, they get an accurate QB with a reasonable salary for the next several years.

So, IF a trade is in the offing (I said IF, everyone), what would be the package? My suggestion would be Cam and the Panthers 3rd round pick for Carr and their 17th overall, provided Cam signs an extension with the Raiders.

Thoughts?

Why are the Raiders giving up on him if he's a franchise QB worth building around? He'll be 29 next year with a 21.5 million dollar cap hit.

Don't see the argument for this possible move if you are against keeping Cam for one more year at 19 million.

Read the article. Explains it quite clearly.

I'd rather have a healthy Cam Newton, but I don't know details of his health

If he's unable to go, I think Carr would be the best quarterback we could realistically get for years

The Raiders are a mess of a franchise and got rid of Amari Cooper and Mack.

Kevin Stefanski could turn Carr into Kirk Cousins, which is enough to win a Super Bowl.  For as much as people complain bout Kirk Cousin's contract, he's the best quarterback who has come available in the market in years (and we're not picking high enough in the draft to get Burrow or Tua).

His head coach doesn't see enough "high end upside" for the price tag sounds to be about the gist of it. So basically buyers remorse. Seems to be a lot of that these days with the drama of the neverending quarterback carousel in the NFL. Maybe there is something the Panthers could learn from watching this unfold?

Are you in favor of kicking the tires on Carr? I'd rather look to the draft than hitch our wagon to a 100 million dollar quarterback whose team has already given up on him before he's reached 30.

    • He was always the guy who didn't care about practice or being prepared. That works when you are a freak athlete and aren't in a position that has to do those things. What made Dion work as an athlete is what makes him a terrible agent. Yeah he has always been a pooshow. His kids probably think it's normal but Shaduer just paid the price big time. Started the video and it's already Dion bonkers lol
    • This is also why in a way, I don't want T-Mac to get to 1,000 yards, because I think it means XL or Coker took a step back. While maybe that would be good for T-Mac's growth, I have absolutely zero, in fact, less than zero concern about T-Mac becoming THAT guy for us and being a Top 10 WR every year with legit Top 5 potential. And even though I have faith that XL and Coker can be that 2/3 combo next to T-Mac in the future, I have far more concern in the two of them getting there than T-Mac being that #1, so their growth is "more important" to me this season than T-Mac's, in that sense. Thielen's presence will suppress the numbers T-Mac/XL/Coker put up, but his presence is what is best for Bryce's growth, which is more important than anything with the WRs this year because we need to know if he's going to be that franchise QB for us. If Bryce already proved himself to be that guy, Thielen isn't even on the team this year and none of this is a debate, then yes, T-Mac would HAVE to put up 1k this season.
    • I've gone back to buying Panthers merch for the first time in a couple of years. Have some optimism for the first time since we drafted Bryce, which quickly met it's downfall.  Don't fug this up, Panthers.
