What I think we'll see for next year....

Cam will stay because his foot will heal and his shoulder is fine. For $21 mil to get an All Pro QB is hard to argue with but here's another reason. You build up the pieces around him and he either: has a greta year and we know our future QB and the team has been upgraded around him. Or, you've already started building a good team for a top pick QB or signing in 2021. Grier and Allen will be the back ups and yes it's a roll the dice but you are building the future at the same time, not going for it all in 2020. Overall the team has a lot of young guys. Coaching (and philosophy) is where most of the changes next year will happen.

Get younger and bigger on both lines. Draft OL & DL in 2 of the first 3 picks, if we resigned Bradberry and Cocktrell. We have some pieces.

RB; CMC - set (doesn't matter who's behind him) Scarlett and Reggie.

TE: Even if Olsen doesn't come back, Ian is a good start to build around. I think he'll retire.

WR: Moore is developing into a #1 and Samuel has some work but we can sign or draft another for #2 and move Curtis to slot. I think we have 1 more year with Wright.

OL: Draft someone, not sure which position needs it more but unless Paradis can show it was an off year following surgery that might be the most important spot. Moton and Little/Daley could work for the year. We might need a G too as injuries got both guys this year.

DL. KK back with Poe and draft a big guy (to replace Love and Butler who will probably be gone). Yes, Poe showed some good stuff this year and to sign an experience DT would cost the same. A little weight and experience added to Miller and Burns should help them as DEs. Hope they bring back Mario for another 2 years (not big $$ as he's older). Obada gets better every year so he could be a big DE we need in rotation.

LB: We actually have a good group. Haynes and Carter and Smith all will have more experience and we know Luke and Shaq aren't going any where. I also think we go back to 4-3 with the occasional set up in 3-4 for 3rd & long. I'd like to see that UDFA Jordan K play and see what he's got.

DB: We should lock up Bradberry and Cocktrell (both are great) and move Jackson to slot. He's got the speed and has trouble getting double moved on. Then we can draft or sign another CB. At Safety, I would sign Tre to 3 years (not big money but he would love the security and he's the only one getting INTs and he brings energy to the Defense) and we already have Reid for 2 more years, but draft in the mid rounds another safety. * Side note: I see us possibly signing JNo back for a 2 year low $$ contract. He's made his money and he doesn't need or want to chase the money. He was miserable in Washington. It's near his hometown. This especially is we lose or don't resign both Bradberry and Cocktrell.

If we don't go for a QB, we have a chance to draft 2 OL, 2 DL, FS, (TE or WR) and CB. With 2 or 3 decent signings (not breaking the bank) on a WR, TE, CB (mid 20's) we are building for the future and staying competitive and seeing what Cam has left. He has earned that right and he is what packs the stadium and brings the energy to the crowd. Before getting hurt in 2018 he looked good and is a leader.

I don't see: Irvin, McCoy, Olsen, D Will. Possibly don't see: Paradis (if they determine he was fully healed and just played bad), Mario (if he wants big money), Tre (if he wants big money), Jackson - traded.

Not looking for a debate and what's right or better, just what I think we'll see. How about do the same to see "logical" thoughts of what you think will happen.

I think Cam will be back which I am happy about. How he’ll do? Hard to say. I know he’ll have 3 games worth of rust in him that we’ll probably lose. I just hope he doesn’t get injured while he’s warming up, really going to have to wait and see.

I’ve really lost faith in KK. At the same time I have more faith in Poe. But their cap numbers are horrendous and will hold the team back because I don’t think either will play to the level were paying them for. I’d welcome McCoy back for another year.

Speaking of a lot of money I think Luke is still worth it. Still one of the best. Shaq well is disappointing how mismanaged he was. Either way you pay two guys this kind of money and you really need to figure out how to utilize them properly. Hopefully a new coach can do that.

I actually think Jackson bounces back from this year. I think him and Rivera were a bad mix. Bradberry is not great but solid and unless we have someone better to replace him with it’s be foolish to let him go. Reid makes some big time mistakes but he’s solid as well. Boston has done OK. I think the two biggest holes are NT/DT (depending on scheme) and S. But seeing the money already tied up on the line I think we’re stuck with what we have. But we may draft their replacements.

DJ Moore is going to be good. If Curtis Samuel works his ass off his ceiling is Ted Ginn. I’m not a believer he’s going to be great. Other than that we have no one. It’s time to let Olsen go. Time to see about Thomas. It depends on how a new coach is going to use this offense.

CMC is CMC but saying we don’t need anyone behind him is concerning. CMC is a player you don’t run into the ground like Barkley. We have needed for a long time a decent back up to help NOT named Cam.

Offensive like needs huge work but again you have to remember where investments have already been made and money is already tied up. Moton is decent, Trai has been OK but I think he’ll bounce back which is good since he’s paid. We have investments at LT and we’re already paying Paradis. I don’t think we move on from him unfortunately, but with only two years left we could draft his replacement. Biggest needs on offense G, WR/T.

Cam, Bradberry, and Poe won’t be back

It does just depend on the new coach’s vision. There are a lot of justifiable cuts that could be made and just eat the dead money if the new coach wants to rebuild and retool the Panther team which is very likely.

If Cam can come back and we can focus on upgrading the trenches I think we can make a pretty dramatic turnaround in short order. I really, REALLY wish that Hurney hadn't touched Short's contract. He turned an already bad contract into one of the worst non-QB contracts in the NFL.

2 things with KK. 1, we missed his run defense big time this year and 2nd, we gave him the money because we were losing Star (at the time) and that was the going rate for top DT's.

On a side note: Nobody can live up to getting that big contract. Even Donald in LA can't live up to it and he's the best DT out there. It is what it is.

Gettleman gave him the money. That wasn't the big problem. We were turning the corner on that contract getting into a situation where we had some options in terms of making him a cap casualty. Hurney pulled one of his old tricks "restructuring" that contract converting base salary to bonus to free up cap space in the short-term with the massive long-term consequence of making that money now guaranteed greatly reducing our cap options. This is one of the ways that Hurney screwed up the cap in his first tenure. We had lots of guaranteed money tied up in aging, declining players.

QB- Cam (unless traded for ransom)

RB- CMC + doesn't matter = squad

WR- Moore/Samuel/Wright  (could use another guy but not glaring)

TE- Olsen likely gone (Thomas + FA should suffice)

OL- Dear God fix it.  All the picks, all the money.

DE- gonna be bad for a min (Fix Oline first)

DT- KK + Poe/McCoy and some filler should keep Luke clean

LB- Switch back to 4-3 and let Luke be Luke. (Shaq and the youngins are strong)

CB- Bradberry should get a deal, Cockrell is solid, Jackson needs more work maybe at nickel

S- For now Boston/Reid will have to do. (if a FA option comes along maybe upgrade Boston)

I just hope we decide on Cam early. I don’t want to have a mediocre year with Cam and then move one only to ruin our chance at the top QBs. If we feel Cam isn’t our future then cut bait and go for broke. I’m not going to be mad either way but we have to decide or we’ll blow by two good QB classes with nothing to show for it and no Cam.

I hate to say it but I’m leaning towards letting Cam go. He hasn’t finished 3 of the last 4 years and he’s not getting healthier. Our OL and D are both sub par. Our D is giving up 30 points a game now. That’s not easily fixable considering some of the bad contracts we will be forced to keep going.

Ron and Hurney even fuged up an odd year. I’m not optimistic for next year so I’d rather go Clausen time and get a new Cam than limo along, see Cam battered and retired with nothing to show for it. I know I’m negative but 7 and 6 (still going) game losing streaks after a glimmer of hope really suck the fan life right out of you.

I honestly don't expect a definitive decision on Cam until after the draft. The start of the league year doesn't matter. We're not going to outright release him. If the right QB option presents itself in the draft I think we'll jump on it and then try to trade Cam because honestly I doubt Cam would want to stick around to be a stop-gap but then again, we've also seen other great QBs do that so who knows?

That is the area in which Hurney sucks--he mortgages the future all the time.

What was the point of messing with Short's contract to begin with?

    • I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.
    • Sun Devils just scored another TD on BYU, 14-0
    • It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
