We Need Some Men in The Trenches with A fuging Mean Streak

Yea we had a lot of injuries. So what. We've been bludgeoned to death several times this season by no name players.

There is no possible way everyone on the the Oline and dline sucks this bad. I think we just have a bunch of dudes making a lot of money playing Patty cake with their opponents and getting bitch slapped and pankacked repeatedly game in and game out

The reality is were likely not going to get several seasons of top 10 picks to build our dline or Oline into an unstoppable machine. We need a new line coach and some new players in there who aren't just playing for a damn check and getting punked every Sunday .

Our front seven was just a bad mix of talent from jump street. We needed to add more speed on the edges to get more pass rush but we saw the trade off of going too far in that direction. Sire, the pass rush is much improved at the expense of not being able to stop the run at all. Then we lost two of our top three DTs making an already bad situation a lot worse.

Yep, you nailed it.

Let's go back to the D-line first and foremost. Even starting  at the beginning of the year, you've got Gerald McCoy, Dontari Poe and KK Short as your front three. That group ought to scare the crap out of opposing O-lines on reputation alone.

And that's what we got: reputation alone. The only D-line guys that have worked like they mean it are Kyle Love (who always gives his all) and Vernon effin' Butler (a guy we thought might have fallen asleep on the field once or twice). The three big namers? Meh. Sacks not so much and is it too much to ask for a tackle or two of running backs? Three frikkin' wastes of money.

Then the O-line. Sheesh. The best of the bunch had been GVR. Greg van Roten... best in pass and run blocking. Now, note that being the best on that line isn't asking for much of a bar to clear. Moton has been okay. Williams has managed to show he can no longer play two, perhaps three positions along the line. Turner has been frustrating and it looks like he actually wants to get out of here (not that we would miss him). Paradis was supposed to be sturdy, steady and studied when it came to being the center point of the offensive line. He has been shaken and stirred throughout the season. Why he hasn't been replaced by Larsen so far must only scream to the point that Larsen isn't actually at the games, and it is just his pads and uniform propped up on the bench with an empty helmet sitting on top.

On a soft team, our lines are the softest parts. How the crap did this happen? That bunch of millionaires could be replaced by Thurston and Lovie Howell with little loss of finances or capabilities.

Ugh, if we use a high pick on a tackle again, I’ll be pissed. There are holes on our interior lines that currently are filled by about $50M in cap hits for 2020. We ignored 2 drafts in a row where interior OL was a strength both times and interior DL was a strength last year. We wasted a pick on a not necessary trade up and then threw a 5th at a RB we never had active when a 3-4 DE who shined at the Super Bowl was available and a G from Wisconsin (starting for Rams) was sitting there. The Saints on the other hand got their Ryan Kalil for the next 10 years 1 pick after the pick we traded up from.

My ideal scenario (please don’t beat the Colts) is Brown in the 1st and then G/C in two of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th and mix in BPA at CB, S and WR as needed.

Kick Little and/or Daley inside to OG. I won't be mad at all of we take a guy because we think he's an elite OT. We haven't had a consistently top tier OT since Gross. Hell, you could make a legit argument that he's the only one we've had in franchise history.

Gettleman and Rivera worked so well together because it was a perfect good cop bad cop situation. When Hurney came back, no one was bad cop anymore and the players returned to the same unaccountable bullshit that happened before Hurney was fired.

I think a player friendly coaching staff with no accountability from upper management lead to apathetic players and mediocre play on the field.

Gettleman of course had his shortcomings, but you need to have a bad cop in the building to hold the players and even coaches accountable. Hurney is not that guy.

Is Shurmur a bad cop?

Out of everyone on the o-line Turner is the biggest disappointment for me. Dude has been to pro bowls( why?) and is playing like he doesn’t give an F. Then you have Paradis who everyone thought would be as good or better than Kalil.. dude looks like he’s playing on ice. Williams is a colossal failure and should be in the XFL. Can give the young guys a pass, Little already has two concussions and Daley has shown flashes. GVR has been the only decent one.

The d-line has three names that most everyone knows if you follow football. GMC has been a huge disappointment, Poe needs to go and Short has been hurt. Burns decided to inflict a wound on himself and now for some reason isn’t getting any snaps. Miller has been non-existent, Addison is the only bright spot with double digit sacks.

So basically the two areas that can win or lose you games is a freaking mess. Going to take more than just a couple years to get this team straight.

    • If we don't switch it up and start playing full court pressure D we're just going to have to shoot lights out and have the other team have an off night to have a chance against top teams. We've trailed by 20 in three of our four games and ended up getting back in them by picking up the pressure. This team has to pressure and create pace because we don't have the post presence to play half court ball on either side of the court.
