Quick note as far as interview timelines...

Right now the teams that are expected to have a first round bye in the playoffs are the Ravens, Patriots, Seahawks and Packers.

That affects two of the coaches we're said to be interested in. Josh McDaniels and Greg Roman could both be available for interviews in this scenario.

Kevin Stefanski would not be available until the following week at the earliest, depending on whether his team won or not. Their initial game would be at the Saints.

Stefanski suck! Just another Pat Shurmur 2.0

your HC would be Stanski with Shurmur calling plays.

It was.  I fear it will be a while longer before this team is ready to go back to the SB.

Said it before, but watching the games in 2015, I really thought it was the start of something special. I believed we had the potential to be dominant for years to come.

Now it's just four years later and I'm not even sure how we got from there to here.

Yeah, I am obviously being facetious.

I will say that I have a significant amount of concern if we don't make our front office hire(s) before we get a head coach. Tepper is not a football guy, period. I would like another football guy in the room talking to him about this decision on a daily basis rather than Marty Hurney.

I haven't read any following posts yet, so somebody may have already mentioned it.

But, in this case we really have no choice but to hire the coach first.  Most coaches become available as soon as their team is out of the playoffs, whereas GM/front office/scouts contracts run through the draft.  So lets say there's a guy Tepper wants to bring in as GM, he can't even talk to him until after the draft.  And by that time, all of the top coaching options will be off the market, and we'll be left with the dregs of the coaching ranks to choose from.

I know it seems ass backwards, but it's the dilemma you face when you want to bring in a new GM and coach in the same offseason.

And by the way, GM candidates not being available until after the draft is the same reason we couldn't just dump Hurney when we let Rivera go.  Like him or not, Hurney at least knows how to run a draft and do some of the administrative things teams have to focus on in the offseason (extensions, cuts, whether to tag or not, coordinating the scouting for the upcoming draft, etc.).  It's why I think all the fears of Tepper keeping Hurney as the GM are a waste of energy.  Hurney may be retained, but probably not as GM.  Dave is likely just waiting until he can legally talk to the guys he really wants in the position.

No head coach has ever won a super bowl with two teams.

Don't want McCarthy for that reason alone.

McDaniels, I don't know, I have the weirdest feeling about him. I feel like I should HATE the idea of him as a potential coach, but I actually don't.

I think he was young and arrogant in Denver his first go round, and in St. Louis he really didn't have anything to work with in terms of talent other than an aging Steven Jackson. Can't really judge a guy as an OC with Sam Bradford throwing to Brandon Lloyd with his number 1 WR. I think he's grown up a lot since then and he is well respected as an offensive mind throughout the NFL. The dude is apparently the Hoodie's protege, and daaaaaaaaaamn do I want the next Belichick running the show for us. Maybe I just want to believe more than anything, but I would not hate the idea of McDaniels as our HC.

I think you're right about McDaniels being young and arrogant...IMO, he was also tying to be another Belichick by copying what he did without really understanding what made Bill Bill.   In fact, I think the real failure was that Denver didn't realize that a guy younger than some of his players should probably not have had so much power dumped into his lap right away.  I think McDaniels has certainly grown and learned a lot since then, and I doubt he'll be given that kind of power again.  And if we bring his buddy, Caserio, in as GM, I think he would have a solid voice to make sure everything stays on the tracks.

10 years brings a lot of growth and maturity. So, I don't really put much weight into what happened a decade ago when he was young and dumb.

Virtually everyone agrees that a big part of McDaniels' downfall in Denver was being given too much control and power in the organization too soon. He was already a very young HC and they basically gave him near Belichick level control right out of the gate. He just wasn't ready for it.

Buuuuuuuuut, as someone living out here during that trainwreck it's impossible to overstate just how much of a trainwreck it was. I'm talking Lane Kiffin/Raiders level trainwreck. It was UGLY.

If we hire him, I'll hope like hell he learned a ton from that experience and emerged a new man but honestly having seen it happen up close, I don't want him.

I was listening to one of the "insiders" and they said along with him being given too much power that, as you said, he wasn't ready for, there were things that went on behind closed doors that contributed to the mess that was not his fault.  They didn't elaborate, but I think the whole situation then was just a massive clusterfug and was pretty much doomed from the start.

Either way, I'm sure he learned a lot from that experience, and I really don't see him getting that kind of power anytime soon.  So, whether it's with us or someone else, I think he'll probably be a much better coach than what we saw in Denver.
