‘‘Tis the season to get fired”

Now being reported that Dave Caldwell and Doug Marrone are safe. The only person being fired is Coughlin. And apparently Coughlin was gonna retire at the end of the season anyway.

Coughlin has done so much for Jacksonville over the years it is hard to believe they'd choose to fire him rather than just let him retire.  Says more about Jacksonville's ownership than it does Coughlin.

This is why Coughlin got fired:

Well, good grief!

The NFLPA announced on Tuesday that a Jaguars player, later identified as former Jaguar Dante Fowler, was cleared of $700,000 worth of fines from the team. He’s hardly the first to need the Players Association to go to bat for them after receiving overbearing fines.

Fowler was fined 25 times by the Jaguars for missing “mandatory” injury rehabilitation in the offseason. The Collective Bargaining Agreement, however, states teams are not allowed to force players to rehab their injuries at team facilities in the offseason.

The NFLPA noted that 25% of all grievances filed on behalf of various players over the past two seasons have been against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The arbitrator assigned to Fowler’s case ruled in favor of the NFLPA because for the most part, offseason workouts are “strictly voluntary.”

Jacksonville executive vice president Tom Coughlin has struggled with the concept of voluntary offseason activities since being hired by the Jaguars prior to the 2017 season. When former Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey didn’t show up to voluntary offseason activities, Coughlin took a not-so-subtle jab at him.

We’re very close to 100 percent attendance," Coughlin said then, "and, quite frankly, our players should be here building the concept of team, working hard side-by-side, constructing our bond of togetherness, formulating our collective priorities and goals.”

Since the players don’t actually need to be there, it’s unnecessary for him to make public comments about attendance.

At the end of the NFLPA statement, the association warned free agents considering the Jaguars in the offseason to be wary of the team’s recent history with unnecessary fines.

And Dante Fowler isn't the only player on the team illegally fined for various "infractions." Leonard Fournette recently got $90k back after an arbitration case was settled. Jalen Ramsey as well got some cash back.

Coughlin tried his tough guy/outdated practices and it's gonna cost him.

He's had a rift with every player of note the jaguars had and he's given out a few contracts that have already turned south(Norwell and Foles)

I can't help but think, that they fired him because they wanted to get even. He was retiring after 2 more games anyway.   They wanted on record that, they were displeased with him.
