If Cam is traded will you follow him to a new team?

Cam is a super star, and that is something that panther fans have not had to deal with. Fans did the same for your MJs, Peyton Manning’s, Lebron’s, Barry Bonds, etc. You see it more in the NBA, as that league is more player driven, but your other sports have those players like that as well.

Players that bring something to their respective leagues that would be seen as rare, also have legions of fans. Hence why you have so many ppl that still love and follow Vick, and why folks will follow Jackson wherever he goes

I know plenty of people who dropped the colts once Manning left, and became bronco fans.

This. Me personally I'm first and foremost a panthers fan, that won't change. But I see nothing wrong with people being a fan of a particular player instead of a team and I will be rooting for Cam to do well wherever he goes as long as he isn't playing against the panthers. He's demonstrated in his time here that he's a class individual who gives back to his community and gives you everything he has on the field. I can't think of a single good reason to be against that just because he's no longer playing for my team.

It brings up a question...

Cheering for the Panthers plus whatever team Newton plays for is absolutely a valid option, but what if Newton goes to a team that you hate?

If Newton were to wind up with the Falcons, Saints, Bucs, Cowboys, Steelers or Patriots for example, would that affect your decision?

(Note: some of those are highly unlikely scenarios, just speaking hypothetically)

These are the kind of scenarios I consider carefully and painfully while munching Cheetos in the bushes outside Olivia Munn's house. I don't know what I'll do in the event of something like that, but the conflicting emotions will probably put me in therapy.

Okay different therapy....

...from what I would be in now if I went.

Stop yelling, you sound like the voices.

My dad grew up telling me how he was a fan of Roger Staubach. How he just knew that if the cowboys were down, he was going to bring them back.

I find it hard to believe, with the demographic that I believe to be a bit older being heavy on this board, that fans on here aren’t able to grasp folks having favorite players. I’m a Braves fan, so I’ve been around older gentleman who’d rave about Dale Murphy, and how they were his biggest fans. You talk baseball with a Red Sox fan, he’s going to rave about Carl Yastrzemski and how he was the man. This downing of people for being player fans is weird to me, when I know some of your daddy’s, uncles, grandpas, mamas, sisters, and cousins had favorite players.

I think part of the disconnect comes from the fact that back in the day your favorite player probably played for your fave team and was unlikely to leave, so you rarely had any kind of divided loyalty in that regard. But I agree there’s nothing wrong with liking a player even after he leaves your team. Who decided on all these arbitrary rules of fandom?

Maybe I’ll fight back with my own arbitrary loyalties. From now on I’m a fan of players with alliterative names who played college ball at schools that used to be part of the Big East and now play in the AFC west.

Those guys are awesome.

Not at all. I'll wish Cam well and possibly try to catch a game or 2 on tv to see how he does with them but I'm not going to stop cheering on the Panthers. I only have two teams that I care enough to really follow: The Panthers above all others and The Vikings, as long as it doesn't hurt the Panthers, due to my connection to them before the Panthers existed.
