Kyle Allen. Despite being written off already, I still see potential there.

So it seems a majority of us has already written off Allen as just yet another footnote QB for the Panthers like Matt Moore or Jimmy Clausen, I’m not so sure I’m ready to throw in the towel myself though. Yes, he has looked inconsistent and has had some piss poor games. But there is one key thing I still think Allen has in spades.. Intangibles. Stuff you won’t see on film or can see in stat lines. He just seems to pass the eye test, he is calm under pressure, the work ethic seems to be there, he doesn’t seem to let bad plays weigh him down, he sees the field well most of the time and despite a few fixable things here or there he seems to learn from his mistakes and learn.

Besides all this I go back and look at his game against a good Houston team in a hostile environment and his game against the Saints this year in the dome, even the AZ game where he didn’t crack despite his first start this year in front of loved ones and friends. The bottom line is this, most of us have written off Allen as just another forgotten QB but I am very intrigued to see what he can do with a whole off season with a new offensive minded head coach and one year wiser with all the experience he has gained this year. Keep in mind as well he is just 23 years old, only two years removed from being able to drink legally for god Saale.

i think he could be good with a great line.  great lines aren't happening anymore, or rarely, and they're tough to sustain.  just listening to ex o-line players they need more practice than they're allowed.  we're gonna have to get someone more mobile.  i want jalen, but we'll see what happens.

I don't doubt it. Overall OL play in the NFL certainly seems to be at an all-time low. Something is going on there.

If we had a decent oline I think he could be a solid starter.

Granted if we had that, it's likely we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Allen has serious problems completing passes > 25 yards.  Serious problems.  It is peculiar because he makes very difficult throws right up to that point, and does them without a ton of trouble.  But anything beyond that? yeesh.

Allen could be a good backup, but I do not think he is a long-term starter for us.

As the hits and pressures seem to come more often, his composure and decision making went away.  He seems to be just getting rid of the ball now.

David Carr got shook as a rookie because he was knocked around like a rag doll.  Seems that Allen is heading that direction.

The NFL has a ton of guys who would look great if they had a ton of protection.  At this point, the Panthers cannot protect and Allen can't find his way.

      Well unfortunately nothing to us. But he has been giving to the rest of the league. He's been so bad he was getting opposing defenders all kinds of accolades and salary increases. Now though he's taking back. You can't lose to a Bryce Young led offense and not expect swift ramifications ya know?

      Full disclosure I responded to this before fully reading the whole post. As if I had, I’d have laughed at you saying you haven’t seen a full route tree from him, as that’s EXACTLY what he has in his bag.  That right there just shows you haven’t watched him at all outside of the downfield highlight reel plays.  He already runs a full NFL level route tree, at all 3 levels.  As I’ve said numerous times before, XL is the big bodied possession guy, while T-Mac would be the true outside #1 who can do it all and a perfect compliment to XL.   Want to draft someone else all you want, that’s totally fair.  But don’t try and say he’s just a big bodied WR who lacks quickness and can’t run a full route tree, as it’s just the furthest thing from the truth.     And it’s okay, after you watch some more clips, you can admit that you were wrong and I’m not showing my own bias towards him.  It’s not like I’m advocating for someone who should be a late 1st rounder or even a mid 1st round pick, this is someone who’s been mocked as high as #2 by a lot of experts lately. The kid is a stud and he has every tool in his bag that you’d want an outside #1 to have.

      My perfect offseason at QB would be trade Bryce, sign Lock (experience with Canales) and draft Ewers in the second or late in the first
