This fan base is funny . I use to comment on here now i just sit back and laugh at y’all . Same people every thread with the same agenda .

Pretty much why I have stopped posting nearly as much.

You see some people with a very clear agenda.  That intentionally lie, misrepresent, etc.  Whatever.  To push it.  And then get offended if you call them out on it.

The informative/fact based threads are still interesting.  But how many people twist things to push a personal agenda just makes so many threads not worth participating in.

Of course he prefers a healthy Cam, look at the other options his great GM has to offer him...

1) Kyle Allen- very inconsistent, still learning how to read defenses

2) Will Grier- the guy Hurney just had to have but has seen the field all of zero snaps this year.

3) rookie qb in the 2020 draft

Assuming that Newton and the Panthers "want the same thing" is a mistake.

Newton is going to want what's best for him (as well he should). Playing on a one-year prove it deal doesn't fit that criteria.

The Panthers want what's best for them. Extending Newton when they don't know whether he can stay healthy is too much of a gamble.

Those things put them at cross purposes, so oeither one side changes their mind or they're likely headed for a split.

I think you and the rest of the camp who believe a split is most likely have the situation all wrong. It would be dumb to make a call on Cam's health now instead of seeing where he's at in a couple of months. And the idea of a "prove you can go a season without getting injured" year is ridiculous. If he's slinging it pain free in by the draft/camp/whatever the internal deadline is, he's still our guy, Period. They're not going to trade a healthy elite QB away and venture into the unknown just because he might get injured again.

We thought he was healthy in this year's camp too.

That's the problem.

Being healthy in training camp and being healthy over a sixteen game or longer season are two very different things.

1. Two negotiating sides rarely want the same thing. The hope is that they can reach a median.

2. Cam has to take some risk. A long term extension below market value doesn't make sense for him either. If he gets healthy and performs, he will want $35M, not be stuck in a below market long term situation.

3. QB misery is the worst situation to be in for a franchise. What's best for the Panthers is Cam healing and performing well. That's why you give him every opporutnity to get right.

4. I don't think a split is happening.

a. A release makes no sense. Even Ian Rapoport said that it is unlikely

b. So that leaves a potential trade. What are we talking? A 2nd or 3rd round pick? So we're giving up a franchise QB for the opportunity to grab a Greg Little, Rashaan Gaulden or Will Grier type of player?

Tepper is just posturing because he's a part of a contract negotiation right now. The "trade" options are just to bring his asking price down.

It's possible. I just don't see it. But again, that's more about what I'm hearing from people with inside access than anything else.

If Cam never steps foot on a field again it still would have been moronic to trade him during camp last year.

I doubt Tepper wants to move from Cam if he is healthy. I also doubt that Tepper will give him an extension.  Let's be honest, Cam has played 10 games in the last 2 years and collected 40 million. My opinion is he owes the Panthers a good season to pay back what he has been paid already. And yes I know that players don't see it that way.

Last year he'd only missed half a season.

Come March, he'll have missed the better part of two of them.

Where was all this trade speculation when Thomas Davis tore his ACL three times in less than two years. When Luke was crying on the field after his third concussion in as many seasons?

No trade speculation with Davis (not that you'd expect it on an injured player) but there was a lot of release speculation. Gotta keep in mind though that Davis happened under Richardson. Tepper is different.

As to Luke, he's still got another year on his deal. But depending on how things play out, who's to say we're not having this same discussion next season about him?

Brees had a severe shoulder injury, and was left for dead until New Orleans took a chance on him. His career stats were comparable to Newton’s over his first few years. He’s now the leading passer of all time. Sack percentage was cut in half. At least for the first few years in New Orleans. But then, they went through a rough stretch where he got hit a lot. Yet, he maintained good health and continued to perform at a high-level.

Miami probably regrets that. But to be fair, it took Sean Payton to get that out of Drew Brees. They are the perfect complement one another. Cam desperately needs that for this portion of his career, and as much as I respect Norv Turner, he’s not coaching much longer, IMO.
