And I'm sure it's nice to think that they'll all sit around and sing kum bah ya together and resolve to make the Panthers the best they can be.

But here's the thing...

Cam Newton doesn't exist for the purpose of helping the Panthers. He exists to take care of himself and his family, same as every other player in the league.

The Panthers don't exist for the purpose of giving Cam Newton a platform. Their purpose is to build winning football teams, and they have to do so within certain real-world parameters, like the salary cap.

For a long time, the Panthers' purposes and Newton's purposes meshed well together, but now they might not anymore. Again, it happens.

And if they split, it won't be because either side was the bad guy.

For all the rah rah, go team stuff fans can muster, it's still a  business. And that's not going to change anytime soon...

...or ever.

And the best thing for the panthers would be to let Cam play here next year.

That's only true if he's healthy, and we don't know that he will be.

Newton playing on a one year deal with no guarantees isn't what's best for him by a long shot.

You're basically asking Newton to risk his potential future earnings for the team. Any agent that accepted that option would deserve to be fired.

Mr Scot has a regular and consistent inability to distinguish speculation from facts. Speculation he believes is a confirmed fact to him.  His own speculation becomes facts if he just says it twice. Just the way he is.

Nah :)

I believe what I believe, but I also acknowledge what parts of it are speculative and what aren't.

I also make an effort never to credit myself with information or speculation that came from somebody else. That would be a violation of integrity.

If you actually know how to read, you'll have no trouble distinguishing what's my opinion and what I credit to somebody else.

He has more leverage than you think.

If it were that simple, why would the team be willing to listen to trade offers?

Why wouldnt they entertain offers?  And what leverage does Cam have?  What can he do to force a trade?

To see if a team is dumb enough to give us a haul for him. Remember two years ago before the Pittsburgh game he was in the MVP talk.

Shockingly we kept TD after three leg injuries but Cam is instantly gone due to a shoulder and foot injury? Makes no sense

What leverage did Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell or Jalen Ramsey have?

All of them were under contract, same as Newton. And those guys are not the only examples.

Jerry Richardson kept Thomas Davis around after three leg injuries.

Jerry Richardson doesn't own the team anymore.

And it was, in fact, a David Tepper owned Panthers team that let Thomas Davis go, even though he was still healthy.

Because he felt TD couldn’t help as much as he was wanting. Time will tell on how much he values Cam. None of us know
