Pats tape shows 8 minutes of Bengals sideline footage

As far as we know the Patriots did have access to the footage, actually.  The series is on their website for crying out loud.  You think they would film their organization and not maintain the authority to review the footage?  At the very least for the sake of protecting trade secrets and confidential player health information. And it doesn't matter if the web series had other content.  All it has to do is have any content filming an opposing teams sideline or attempt to do the same, at any time.

Do you think the Panthers never reviewed all the footage obtained for All Or Nothing?  Do you think the Panthers just blindly trusted the production company filming the series not to release trade secrets or confidential HIPAA information on their players?

This web series does not appear to be primarily about filming other teams AT ALL.  It is about internal patriots operations.  The only videos I could find relate to that kind of stuff - athletic training, nutrition, etc.  So sure, they have access to the general footage of their training staff talking in a car ride or their college scouts talking in a room or whatever.  But,  I couldn't find any evidence other teams were filmed at all until the Bengals incident.  We will certainly know soon if they were, since other teams would have surely notified the league now if they had given the Patriots permission.

I am sure the Patriots review footage.  But when it has nothing else to do with other teams, and this is the only case *we know of so far* where other filming was done, and the film was immediately confiscated, we have no evidence that this latest "scheme" has yielded anything to Belicheck.

Because when you cheat to gain an advantage and have always cheated to gain an advantage, it's just what you do.

And you want home field throughout the playoffs as much as possible.  You know, where you have your cameras hidden better.

You sure you want to judge by the published version of the web series?

It's not like the eight minutes of Bengals sideline signals that this guy filmed was going to end up being featured on the next episode.

How much other video from past filmings "didn't make the final cut"?

And also, if you ever watched the ESPN series on the NE/ATL super bowl prep work NE put into it, they even game planned what refs would be there and what side of the field they would be on in order to draw a holding call.  They are good and people would be highly naive to believe they don't use every advantage they could.

How exactly do you think they shot an opposing sideline for a feature on the athletic training staff that works at the Patriots facilities?  Come on.  If other films were made of opposing sidelines, it seems likely they were for the same episode as this incident with the Bengals, and the only case of that we know about so far is the Bengals game.  The web series the Patriots referred to is not about scouting specifically.

We'll know soon enough if the independent contractors have done anything more than shooting the Bengals sideline this year.  If they have, the punishment must be extremely severe.

Eight minutes of video says that they did.

And as far as believable excuses, I'm gonna rank filming eight minutes of something they weren't supposed to being an honest mistake right up there with "I was cleaning my gun when it accidentally went off...six times".

So far the responses out of New England are mixed.

Belichick denies any wrongdoing.

The Patriots admit the video crews did something wrong but say they didn't know any better.

(riiiight) :)

Meanwhile, you've got the memos from the previous scandal where the Patriots told their video people to say... exactly what they're saying now

The video people are reportedly independent contractors and not Patriots employees. Makes me wonder if it would be easier to get one of them to flip.

FWIW Belichick admits what happened was wrong but says he had no knowledge or involvement. Who really believes him though?

I wouldn't be surprised if a film crew did film eight minutes thinking they would want to cut it down to a few seconds.  It doesn't make it right, but there is zero evidence they were doing other teams for this series, which is a key component of the sort of punishment they should receive.
