It’s Brilliant and they’ll get away with it. The NFL can’t prove intent unless more teams come forward with claims the Pats asked for video crew access as well.

They reportedly had video crews at every opponent's games. They've been publishing a weekly web series.

Using that series to cover filming signals was a brilliant ruse.

It sounds like the Patriots were using this "Do your job" video series as a front to film signals. They could edit the footage into something they can put online to make it credible, but then also keep that sideline footage for themselves.

Brilliant.

Right up till you get caught, of course.

It's not brilliant.  They easily got caught, and it's incredibly stupid given they were previously caught and punished by the league for filming the exact same thing.  This isn't a genius cover to find a way to do it another way.  The promotional or documentary filming of an opposing team's sideline and signals is still filming.  The predicate reason for filming the same does not change the content of the film, which is clearly against the rules to do. The Patriots organization sanctioned and encouraged a documentary series that illegally films an opponent's signals.  The Patriots organization has access to this film.  Whether you believe they looked at the film or not, it is incredibly stupid, and especially egregious considering their history of committing the same violation.

So far the responses out of New England are mixed.

Belichick denies any wrongdoing.

The Patriots admit the video crews did something wrong but say they didn't know any better.

(riiiight) :)

Meanwhile, you've got the memos from the previous scandal where the Patriots told their video people to say... exactly what they're saying now

The video people are reportedly independent contractors and not Patriots employees. Makes me wonder if it would be easier to get one of them to flip.

Reports are they did this every week this season.

so... the Patriots hire an independent contractor, get approval from teams hosting games, and film the opposing sidelines and assume nobody is going to know?

also, can you link to those reports?  the Patriots statement does not suggest that was the case.

Oh, the scheme is brilliant.

The guy wearing Boston sports gear and sitting in front of a Bengal employee? Not so much.

It definitely start from the owner. So the NFL needs to punish the team harshly.  Multiple 1st rounders and something with the salary cap. Bc Belichick and Brady can leave anytime to anywhere and would not be affected. Punish Kraft

Agreed. They need to punish the franchise and harshly.

The scheme is not brilliant.  This is an old tactic employed by organization, which should be more sophisticated.  Pissing on someone's back and telling them it's raining is not a new scheme.

I've seen it from a couple of different sources. I'll look it up here in a bit but I believe part of that came from the Patriots response. They explained that this was a web series they were doing and in fact already had several episodes on their site.

jfc bellicheat will do anything to win.   he doesn't care if you're a 1 win team or a playoff team.   they need to get the death penalty (football, not life) for this.  the tapes don't need to be destroyed this time like last time.   the nfl covered up how bad it was last time

Yet it took this long for someone to find out.

I won't argue they were idiots to engage in this kind of behavior again, but that crew up there is so arrogant they probably thought they could get away with it.

(darn those meddling kids)
