Who are the leaders on this team?

I'm not saying that they are, but I bet their voices are respected in the locker room.

They have both been here a long time, are highly paid, and are both really good players.  What I'm saying is that we don't hear them talk much, but they may be doing stuff behind the scenes....we don't know....it's why I said closest things, and they may not be at all.

Short is definitely not a leader but more a follower. Just bc he’s a vet and has one of the biggest contract on this team don’t mean he’s a leader. I’ve never seen that man be vocal or try to set examples on the field for his teammates to follow. Only thing he has done is stole money from this team and be mediocre.

I do agree, it seems we have a lack of leadership.

Luke and CMC are great as they "lead by example".  That's absolutely necessary on any team, but it can't be the only thing you have.

Eric Reid has a real problem.  I think his personality wants to be a leader, but his football credibility has to be pretty crap right now given his play this year.  He's been bad in coverage and his tackling usually consists of hitting with a shoulder and hoping to blow the guy up.

Losing TD and Ryan all in one year hurt us, then Cam goes down . . . yea we've definitely had some blows to our locker room leadership.

We don't know what goes on in the locker room, and in the team facilities.  When we think of leaders, we think of Cam and TD...vocal, in your face, loud, full of energy...but there are other types as well.

I'm not saying that those two are or aren't but usually the type of player that are your leaders are the players that are veterans, good players, and respected.

I was thinking today how TD, Mike Adams, and Munnerlyn were shown the door. They and Rivera are the ones we saw go after Donte Jackson on All or Nothing. I think part of the problem we've had this year is a lack of leadership in the locker room. On defense, the only vocal leader I see is Gerald McCoy and it's not easy to step into that role your first year. On offense, I think it's Cam (to an extent) and Olsen, but only Olsen has been there this year but it feels about 80% likely that he won't be back next year one way or another.

Going young at a lot of spots is good, but it can hurt if you go too young too soon and you make your leadership disappear.

By the way, I have a feeling people might mention Kuechly or Reid as leaders. They're definitely leaders on the field as they're often getting guys into the right spots, but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about a guy not afraid to call a players-only meeting or to huddle your unit up on the sidelines or to call a guy out in a position meeting. That stuff is needed too and I don't see many guys with that capability.

Gentleman got rid of most of them: Steve Smith, Josh Norman, Thomas Davis, Jericho Cotchery, Andrew Norwell off the tip of my head...

Gettleman didn't get rid of Davis, Cotch, or Norwell...

Gettleman did get rid of Beason, Gross, Smith, Norman, and Williams.

The only true detriment to leadership that he released were Beason and Gross. The other 3 were Divas.

Look what happened right after Ron left, DJ calls out the coaches and talks about bad calls. If Ron is still there crap like that doesn’t happen. Whatever coach we replace him with is going to have to be someone the players respect or the locker room will be lost.

As far as players, we lost most of our veteran presence. TD, Peppers, Kalil, Adams, Captain. Guys like that aren’t easily replaced.

That's what happens when you get rid of your vets in search of getting faster.

Cap and Adams I get...

I STILL say, TD shouldn't have been shown the door. He probably would have took a massive pay cut and a backup role to stay here (And he's said as much).

But I guess our talent scouts felt Andre Smith and Carter Jr. were better in those spots.

Ironically, Shaq gets extended fresh off getting stiff armed to another dimension. I guess the whole logic was to see if he was worth keeping but IMO that could have still be managed better.

Smith, Davis and Norman were Leaders that players at their positions respected and listed to. Your definition of Diva is misconstrued...

Valid point and probably solid insight. Leadership seems an issue right now.

I think it's probably true. Missing Cam and KK...  TD, Ryan, Pep, Adams, Torrey Smith all gone.

CMC is growing into leadership...

Tre is trying to keep the D's energy up...

McCoy and Irvin also helping, but both new to the team.

Mario & Shaq both could play a role, but both dealing with family tragedies...

It's tough. And not something that can magically fix in one off-season. Takes time to build locker room leadership cred, and gain the trust.

Those golden days of 2015 were so special and rare.

    • i felt good for those few games that bryce didn't look like the worst in the league. all that fell apart again sunday.  i'm borderline just bailing on it all. i've been hanging on by a thin thread for several years. i mean it's not even fun to watch any football right now.
