Who are the leaders on this team?

I was thinking today how TD, Mike Adams, and Munnerlyn were shown the door. They and Rivera are the ones we saw go after Donte Jackson on All or Nothing. I think part of the problem we've had this year is a lack of leadership in the locker room. On defense, the only vocal leader I see is Gerald McCoy and it's not easy to step into that role your first year. On offense, I think it's Cam (to an extent) and Olsen, but only Olsen has been there this year but it feels about 80% likely that he won't be back next year one way or another.

Going young at a lot of spots is good, but it can hurt if you go too young too soon and you make your leadership disappear.

By the way, I have a feeling people might mention Kuechly or Reid as leaders. They're definitely leaders on the field as they're often getting guys into the right spots, but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about a guy not afraid to call a players-only meeting or to huddle your unit up on the sidelines or to call a guy out in a position meeting. That stuff is needed too and I don't see many guys with that capability.

Without a real NFL caliber QB on offense it's hard to have a leader, best options Greg & CMC.

Luke would be the closest thing on defense, but he's not a fire everyone up type of player.

I think McCoy has tried to take on some of that responsibility based on clips / comments / etc.

As it stands it would appear to be an absence in comparison to years past.

not olsen.   he's one of ron's fav's.    nobody is listening to a guy the org overpaid and maybe shouldn't even have been on the field the last few years.   he's been an extension of the bad coaching and poor assistants. not luke, not cam.  i don't think we have any actual leaders.  poor leadership has flowed from the top down.

So I guess Olsen isn’t invited to your Christmas party.

He’s been one of my favorite Panthers since we brought him here and I wanted us to draft him.

I guess I don’t understand the slight.

A big part of what made 2015 so successful was cohesiveness and leadership. Remember that everyone wrote us off after KB went down and Ginn was our only weapon on offense outside of Olsen. It’s a big part of what’s been missing the last couple of years.

Valid point and probably solid insight. Leadership seems an issue right now.

Luke and Christian are the only ones with room to talk and neither are the type to.

I think Burns could become a big locker room personality once they take the training wheels off him.

Might be just me, but McCaffrey doesn't strike me as a "leader" type.

Super hard worker, probably the best player on the team right now and teammates might vote him captain, but he just doesn't give off that vibe to me.

I could be wrong about that, of course.

Agreed.

Closest things right now are likely Greg, KK, Trai, Addison.

KK and Trai? LOL. You got to be kidding me. What are you smoking?

I'm not saying that they are, but I bet their voices are respected in the locker room.

They have both been here a long time, are highly paid, and are both really good players.  What I'm saying is that we don't hear them talk much, but they may be doing stuff behind the scenes....we don't know....it's why I said closest things, and they may not be at all.

i'm not trying to slight olsen.   he was awesome.  he did completely align himself with rivera.   if rivera would have been a better coach with better assistants it would have been beautiful.  i'm not saying its the wrong thing to do, because that's what you need. you need players to be extensions of the coach.  problem is when the coach isn't a really good coach.  if ron's shortcomings were obvious to us - i gotta believe they were obvious to the team too.   so now you've got greg carrying water for a guy who routinely got outcoached.   i'm guessing his extension after all the injury issues had a lot to do with him being a rivera guy, and not his ability to play anymore.  he was a ron favorite, he took that role on too.    i think the writing has been on the wall.   who is gonna follow the boss's guys when everyone knows the boss is on his way out? foxy had his guys too.
