I'd have to agree that an extension is a non-starter as far as the Panthers are concerned 

It is, however, entirely possible that some other team will see the time off that he's had to heal and think differently.

That's what you have to hope for if you want a trade.

My hope is that he comes back, plays out the contract he signed, is healthy, and stays healthy without having to take "vet days" and "rest days" during the week, and we can pay him after the season is over.

That's a LOT to hope for, even during Christmas season.
