"No One Could Play Behind This OL"

Putting an inexperienced undrafted immobile QB behind a seriously underperforming line will make both situations look worse than analyzing them individually.

Its like trying to assess a slow lap speed of a race car that has the wrong coilover (shock) travel and a bad tire stagger............when you have both set up wrong at the same time it makes it impossible to determine how bad one of them is alone because of the synergy of them both out of wack make the situation even worse than any single issue you need to deal with.

You won't know how really good or bad Allen is with a line like this while at the same time he is trying to learn the NFL system...............and you won't really know how good or bad the oline is until a top QB behind them gives you an indication.....

.....wait check that....

We already had that latter situation and sent the QB to IR.............so the oline really is that bad.........................

If you are not going to seriously (and I mean seriously) address the OL then let Newton walk.  You are doing a disservice to the organization and to Newton, with all that he has been through physically, to throw him back there in the last year of his contract with an O Line that can't pass pro.

Until you are going to fix the protection issue, don't even consider going after legitimate QB.  Do not get the cart before the horse.

It's really disappointing.   On paper I thought this was going to be the best line we've had in years.    I just kind of wonder if it's lack of coaching, not talent.

This is a case where I don't really think you have to choose between those two.

Imagine taking the time to put something like this together.

This OL is hot garbage and Kyle Allen sucks.

I don’t need a table to tell me that. I watch it every Sunday.

People come in all shapes, sizes,  colors, temperaments, attitudes, etc.

Some of us are blessed and enjoy working with numbers.

Others are not so blessed... and that's OK.

We have neglected the offensive line in general for a LONG time.

During the Gettleman and Hurney years, 2002-2019, we have drafted a total of 21 offensive linemen.

We have drafted 6 total in the top two rounds of the draft.  Those picks:

Jordan Gross

Amini Silatolu

Bruce Nelson

Greg Little

Jeff Otah

Ryan Kalil

Only 2 of those high rounders has turned out to be long term starters for us.

What I just typed was not fun.

I'm not really evaluating the OL. I'm evaluating QB play among the bottom tier offensive lines. I have already evaluated the OL in an older thread and it basically bears out that we are a bottom 5 unit, to no one's surprise.

sure, but if you look at young QBs on that list, (and this obv. excuses Lamar Jackson, playing behind a great line), Murray is the only one playing much, much better than Kyle Allen based on your numbers.  All of the young QBs are struggling, and IMO their lines have a lot to do with it.

imo, Allen is exactly what he looks like: a QB that can be a limited factor in winning games when the team around him has a lot of talent.  this is usually what you want from a backup.  he also is not someone that can make a team better around him.  few young players are, but unlike other young players whose prolific college careers provided copious film, we have no reason to believe that with practice and time he will develop into something extraordinary.  maybe he will, but seems unlikely.

Nice thread. I don’t get how so many aren’t seeing the intent of it though.

I agree our line needs to be rebuilt but this shows that QBs CAN produce and win with poor lines. It shows that even with a clean pocket, we would still be struggling without Cam.

A legit QB is few and far between.
