Schefter: Tepper Considering Steelers Executives

It’s never been an if as much as when. Just a matter of when the Steelers want to let him go.

I found a quote from an interview Art Rooney did with Adam Schefter. He basically said he's willing Colbert decide when it's time to go.

Given everything he's done for them, I think that's fair

And with reports that Mike Tomlin has now taken over final say on the roster, it won't surprise me if it's "time" right after this next draft.

Honestly, whether he comes here or not, I seriously doubt Kevin Colbert is still with the Steelers next year.

Here's a thought...

Imagine if we got Kevin Colbert as a consultant to reshape the team, Brandon Hunt as our next GM, and Omar Khan as our chief cap guy / salary negotiator.

Alternative option would be that we could get Colbert and Khan, the Steelers could promote Hunt and we could get Nick Caserio instead.

I'd take either of those scenarios in a heartbeat.

He knows where he’s going. Always has. Deep pockets and total control. And there is no reason for the Steelers to hold him hostage until after the draft. You don’t let GMs who are leaving for another job, draft for you.

This would be absolutely perfect. Colbert as a high level consultant, Khan assistant gm/personel guy and Caserio as gm. This is what I really want

Officially, he's under contract until the draft is over.

Officially...

I'm pretty sure if the involved parties wanted to come up with a compromise, it could be done.

Sounds great!

On a 1 to 10 scale, how pissed would the stelers be with this outcome?

I'm starting to wonder if the Rooney's are wanting to change things up a bit, it's been a long time since their last SB.....for the Steelers.

I get it but I think I would go the other way and get a new coach. Tomlin isnt bad but that front office team is high quality. If this is the shake down, it will be interesting to see hoe thst choice shakes doen for them.

Rooney seems fine with letting Colbert ride off into the sunset. I get the feeling they wouldn't want to lose Brandon Hunt though.

Might not want to lose Omar Khan either, but if Khan is pissed about being passed over for GM, that doesn't exactly help things.

Of those two scenarios, Colbert / Caserio / Khan seems more likely, but I absolutely wouldn't put it past Tepper to go after Hunt. He'd certainly fit everything that Tepper said he wanted.

Not saying that they are, just starting to wonder if they think it's time for some new ideas....who knows.

That contract they handed Ben is looking worse by the day.  Maybe he can come back full strength, who knows....but he ain't getting younger.

There's been a lot of little hints that Tomlin and Colbert have been jockeying for position and Colbert lost. Heck, I've seen some Pittsburgh people say that Colbert is on the hot seat (as crazy as that sounds).

Can't help wondering if the bit about minority owners (and potentially Tepper) trying to get rid of Tomlin is part of that story.

I'll never fully understand why so many of these head coaches feel that they need personnel powers....ego is a hell of a drug.
