So we're going to save 18 million dollars on Cam, but spend 16 million dollars on Shaq Thompson

No matter how hurt Cam is, in which reality is Shaq Thompson worth 89% as much money as Cam Newton

We paid Shaq 1million garunteed more than the 9ers paid Kwon Alexander, who after his carrer in TB, everyone thought that was an overpay.

It's just the market price for starting LBs now. Wowza.

My favorite part is Ian literally has no clue and is saying common sense. 95% of teams with losing records would do the same thing if a team offered like 2-3 first round picks and players to help rebuild.

That being said it is totally a “I want attention” story from him again

Second favorite part is the same two guys instantly saying “yeah definitely happening” or “Panthers leaked it fit interestz” in @Snake and @Mr. Scot you two might be the worst fuging fans on this board when both of you just instantly want to see our franchise QB gone, like either of you even read anything from anyone that says any different than a speculation it’s a forgone conclusion. It’s beyond pathetic and can be seen through every single time

I agree but most seem blind to it..

Even if you move him where do you go from there?

You've got over a hundred milllion tied up in linebackers on a bottom defense.

Who is going to be the QB? Don't say Kyle Allen.

I mean obviously draft one. But unless we get some crazy return for Cam why trade him? Maybe he wants a trade so he can sign a contract. Still I can’t imagine getting much of anything for a questionable QB.

And you are right about paying two linebackers that kind of money...it really is stupid and quite the head scratcher.

I noticed a lot of people talking about tanking. I honestly don’t think grown professional men would purposely tank when their livelihood depends on it. Could be wrong tho. But if a team I cheer for purposely does that, I’m walking away. I’ve invested my time, money and emotions watching my team play and if I see that, I will find another hobby

New fan? Panthers deliberately did that in 2010. Though JR could’ve give two fugs about winning and the fans to do it for a QB to help the future. JR did it because of the lockout, business>winning.

In fairness, it seems kind of...good for us? The part that has never made sense is outright cutting him to save money. Feel like Tepper would also agree, to not give up a valuable asset for essentially nothing. This would make it seem like the two options are:

Not cutting a healthy Cam meaning he's either our QB next year, or they're trading him for a massive haul in the last year of his deal. Either option is far superior to the previous rumors of him just being cut to save money.

and the same couple people coming in every time saying it must be about racism, when its not.   its pretty telling that the people who don't mind moving on from cam are all interested in some of the black qb's coming out in the draft.   again, being ok with moving on from a black qb does not make you racist.  thinking black people can't play qb does.

I don’t think anyone has stated it won’t happen at all. Most have said if it does happen it will be a dumb move instead of waiting to see if he can get healthy.

The flip side is those who say it’s already decided and a forgone conclusion. Could it be because of valid reasons? Sure but show me one that has said it’s a done deal that he is gone that has a smart reason for it.

He has 1 year left on his deal. He’ll be paid middle of the pack for QBs.

He hasn’t had a healthy season in 2 years. We have 2-4 major options involving Cam

1.) Keep him on a prove it deal and see if he can get and stay healthy

2.) He sits out the final year not wanting to play on a one year deal meaning teams haven’t seen him healthy in 3 years which hurts his stock

3.) Trade him (which either nets us a king’s ransom because another team believes he he is/will be healthy) or we get poo offers (which means teams don’t believe he is/can be) and at that point why get rid of him?

4.) Release him which means we get nothing back and don’t give him a shot to get healthy meaning we just yanked our entire franchise for literally no reason

Not one of the forgone conclusion assholes can give a valid reason as to why they say it’s already decided and it makes sense because there isn’t a valid reason to believe it’s decided already. Oh it also helps lend to my thought process that those who say it’s already done that they can’t not knock Cam or bring him up in convos that aren’t about him. Strange huh?

Two years left on Luke’s contract. So it’s not really 100 million. But this raises the question if Luke is gonna be given another contract. Next year is when we would start talks about an extension. I know people don’t wanna hear this but we might not extend Luke or he might retire or we might try to trade him. I agree that if we extend Luke that is way too much money to give linebackers.

i really am thinking this might be a total rebuild and we move on from Cam and Luke within these next two year which really sucks and is sad we squandered their talents.

but based on Tepper talking about looking at this from a future perspective it might take 4 or 5 years. That doesn’t seem to include Cam or Luke based on their ages.

Uh Luke is like 27 and is the best MLB in the league. I just don’t understand this so-called logic of getting a great player in the draft and then hoping we trade him for a chance at an equally great player in the draft, who people would then want traded in two years for another chance at a great player in the draft.

Some of our fan base should exclusively watch the draft in April and ignore the games since there’s already discussion of trading our MVP-caliber 23-year-old RB. It’s like that Family Guy episode where Peter can choose between a boat and a mystery box. That’s our fan base.

“The boat is a boat. I’ll pick the box. The box could be anything. It could even be a boat!”

He’s 28 and will be 30 years old at the end of this contract.

I don’t want to trade or not offer Luke a contract. But you should get comfy with the possibility that does happen.

I feel like that in spite of our fans whining we hang on to players too long, we have very, very few good guys who spend their whole careers here — a much smaller number than any other team since free agency began.
