Yup. My family has been rednecks from Waxhaw since before this country was a thing. Andrew Jackson might have been born there, but we were there first. I don't mind most yankees, they're like people from most everywhere, most of em are perfectly decent human beings, it's just annoying when you go into restaurants in your own hometown these days and before you can order sweet tea, you better ask who made the tea and where are they from, cause kids from Ohio don't know how to make sweet iced tea. They think you just brew tea and then dump a bunch of sugar in it.

You should thank them for bringing dentists to the area. Dumping simple syrup in to the tea vat takes a few years of culinary school. Have patience. People from outside the South aren't as hip to the subtle complexities of mayonnaise and sugar.

Yeah, it's always nice when people stereotype southerners. That's the link to the second ranked dental school in the country which is consistently regarded as one of the very best in the world, and it's housed in the second oldest public university in the nation. If yankees brought dentists with them, they were just bringing the quality of dental care here down, not up.

If brewing sweet tea is so easy, how come yankee kids in restaurants (and I've worked with plenty of them) so consistently can't get it right?

I'm from the South and just joking with you  because I am bored with work.

Waxhaw ain't Chapel Hill.....lol and that dental school didn't start until 1950 no matter how old the building it is housed in is.

I'd say they can't get it right because it's literally just sugar water and a waste of tea and they don't care? The word's tea connoisseurs would look at southerners destroying tea and say "why can't they get it right?"

But they always miss the key point, you gotta add the simple sugar in while the tea is brewing and therefore still hot, otherwise it just settles in the bottom and doesn't mix. If you surveyed local restaurants you'd be surprised how many of them have sweet tea urns with collectively thousands of dollars of sugar going to waste sitting in the bottom of the urn while you and I sit out front complaining how close to unsweet the sweet tea is. Unless you're talking about Hooters, and then those maniacs are just trying to all give us the diabeetus. Just one reason I wont' go there anymore.

Mostly it's just one of my pet peeves from bygone years bartending and dealing with often brain dead useless wait staff.

Having grown up in West Jefferson, I can tell you everywhere is bigger than West Jefferson. Except Jefferson. Go figure.

We celebrated my grandmothers bday many a year at the Bridge & Rail.  Was about the only family gathering she didn’t cook for. Their food wasn’t quite as good as hers but not every singer can be Elvis can they?

I remember watching a Tennessee game and Witten was a sophomore, I think.  He caught my eye.  I was very impressed with him (as a former college TE myself) and sorta followed him (unintentionally) throughout his career.  He is one of the greats.

Used to be a discount furniture store (former school building) out in the middle of nowhere.  I still remember those commercials.  That guy was great.

We went there one time (I was a kid) and saw that guy (used to dress like a super hero for commercials) in the restroom.  I thought I had seen a celebrity.  I should watch the phrasing here--it was at the sink washing hands.  I actually know a clan of people from upstate NJ who moved here and bought huge houses down there--now a horse community.

By the way...read that there were 6000 Cyclone fans at the game....the most ever for 1 team at the state championship game.  Population of the town is under 14,000.
