28 / 4 is 7 million a season. That's the guaranteed money of which 16M was paid upfront. That's 12M guaranteed over the next 4 seasons.

It's like some folk don't even get how contracts breakdown, and are stuck on the face value of 57M over 4 years.

This is a solid contract.

It hurts the reason why they are all freaking out

Thing is Shaq is a ILB through and through, why he fits next to luke in the 3-4 looks but doesnt look as good when playing outside at OLB in 4-3. So if moving back to the 4-3, do you pay him that much... dont think so unless hes starting.

Yeah I completely disagree.  Shaq is much better at OLB.  In fact he is good at both.

He doesn’t suck, but he’s high key been a touch below Luke and he always will be. Luke is the quarterback of our defense in a manner which no other LB has to be.

When this defense wasn't completely exposed at the start of the season, Shaq was on fire, he was doing his job and more, and there were debates about which between him and Bradberry deserved the contract more.

The defensive issues aren't on him. Stop comparing him to Luke, he's a really good Linebacker in the leauge. Very few have Luke's talent, but he's a very strong piece to our defense that would be hard to replace.

If it doesn't work out, it'll suck. But I completely understand the move.

I was referring to Phil’s point that he’s outplayed Luke this season. You’re missing what I was saying entirely.

lol now Hurney starts fuging up our cap by giving big money to mediocre players. Thanks Tepper.

I think he is an elite ilb and you will see when we have good NTs and heavy ends in front of him however, and I don't know what the rate for top 10 lbs are, but this does seem a little steep and maybe a few million too much per. I was thinking 10 mil or so per?

I'm kind of hoping that we're also talking to Bradberry.

I feel fairly comfortable saying that if the result of the next offseason is that we paid this much for Thompson but let Bradberry get away, people will probably be... miffed.

Why? Bradberry isn't even good

The market was just set.

No, I believe some other ILB are making much more than shaq is.

Cj Mosley is making 17 million.

Wagner is making 18m per

This deal puts him 5th among ILB, right in front of jaylon smith and luke kuechly

I don't know why people take issue with folks getting paid a ton of money. It happens every offseason, you should be used to it by now, the main takeaway is that it's only bad when the player is trash. Shaq isn't trash, and he's young, and he's versatile, and he's probably ahead of Thomas Davis at this point in his career, too. I see the logic in re signing him.

But not an up and down corner like Bradberry
