Shaq signed to 4 year extension through 2023

The 'idea' of Shaq as some kind of new breed of 'buffalo nickle' that can be moved all over the field enamors executives (why he was even taken in the 1st round)

But it's been enough years now, and in reality he's just a tweener who is too small to be an elite traditional linebacker, and too slow to actually be put in coverage

In the end he just plays like a mediocre linebacker, with the exception of a handful of exciting plays here or there.  Perhaps some new coach can untap some potential in him, but why gamble

I don't know. I'm going to go with Igo's take in it as a morale move for the players. Sense of normalcy for the guys. He was probably going to be getting one anyways. If nothing else it kind of forces the next guy to make use of untapped talent

It's just weird and I hope in a good way. Because it's a heavy cap constrain.

I agree. I'm just going to sit back at this point and watch the ride. we got rid of Rivera. That was an important first step in making things better. Whether this was a good move or a bad move, I'm willing to sit back and wait and see what happens next before I get upset or excited.

I have no clue what's working behind the scenes and I have to believe there are other things going on. I think people are making to big a deal of this thing, though. I think it's a distraction from something.

He’s been an ok starter. I can’t remember one splash play or game changing play he’s made. His agent deserves a lot of credit

Hurney reminds me of the Hornets. This is kind of like signing Nic Batum

Dude you’ve been the main one vocal about how we should have signed Shaq before the season now you’re switching it up talking about you would have preferred bradberry, you are one of the worst hindsight warriors on this board

Go find those posts.  I have been jumping on the table for James since last offseason, I have been railing on Hurney about signing neither, but have always preferred the CB over paying for yet another LB.

When we had Short and Poe healthy with McCoy both Shaq and Luke looked great. All linebackers need a solid line in front of them so they aren’t taking on offensive linemen while trying to make tackles. We will get Short back, but McCoy and probably Poe need to be replaced. Shaq’s speed and the linebacker spot is something that can’t be coached. With the cap increase coming this deal won’t keep him at the top of his position for that long. Cam’s deal looked like a huge deal when he signed, now it’s considered a bargain.
