Shaq signed to 4 year extension through 2023

How it affects the cap is all in the contract. Next year is named in the CBA as the "Final League Year" and it dictates player salary increases in future years if there's not a new CBA (30% per year max). This may mean that new contracts this year will be more front loaded than usual.

Welcome to 2019/2020, in doing so please remember the market for ILB was blown the fcuk up this pass year.

Quote

C.J. Mosley signed a 5 year, $85,000,000 contract with the New York Jets, including a $7,500,000 signing bonus, $51,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $17,000,000.

Shaq got the same deal as Kwon Alexander did and he was coming off a torn ACL.(less the most important guaranteed $$$).

Honestly what Shaq got was the new "normal" for his spot. He also gets to re-enter the market at 29 years old, for one last shot at big money. I view this this as a win for all. Panthers get to keep a fast LB that can cover WRs, for about market price.

I still love that Hurney's 1st move post Rivera is to extend.....a LB!  Next up is CMC to complete the Hurn-dawg set!

Line Backers and RB's, and contracts with big caps

No one to block for our franchise he got sacked

Horrible drafts after 1 pick its truuuuueeee

These are the things that Dumb Sharty will doooooo!

Where's the pic of Kuechly getting skied over by Julio? :Eyes_Emoji_42x42:

C'mon ... seriously! 59 hung with one of, if not the best, WR in the game on a deep route.  Not even in the same discussion.  Shaq is not 59 and not worth that contract.  Too often in the wrong gap and chasing down folks.  Luke is elite, shaq is decent but replacable.  Typical Hurney move.

Just texted with Joe Marino again. He said he believes James goes for 16 or 17 million a year. Can we afford this? I would much rather have James than Shaq.

Yes, 16-17 is about right for Bradberry. I would honestly say probably closer to 17-18 honestly

Agree some people don't understand some of these contracts. They are going to be higher than people thin, but the cap goes wayyy up as well. Do you believe we can afford this pretty easily? I see we have a lot of cap space

Bradberry has a 62 rating from PFF and doesn't cause turnovers

I get resigning your young players, and he's better than his PFF score, but he's by no means an elite corner.  I don't understand the rush to give him elite cb money.

Both Bradberry and Shaq are above average but not worth franchise money.

The Patriots would let them go and take the comp picks.

We're going to be rebuilding and won't contend any time soon.  Instead of overpaying players, stock up on draft picks until we find our next franchise quarterback.

Agree no way I would've paid Shaq that much, but I wanted Bradberry we probably can't afford him now
