I hear you. I don't think Rivera is an average coach. I think he was the wrong coach for this team.

Still don't understand why they drafted Cam #1 overall to play on a team where they expected him to "manage" games. If you draft a QB #1 overall then you're all in on the offense. This team has NEVER been that.

I don't think that was the original plan. Remember when he first started, Rob Chudzinski was his OC.

When we switch to Shula, well...

Yep and that's exactly my point. If you lose a dynamic OC to a HC position then you bring in another dynamic OC, not Shula. When your franchise LT retires you replace him with another franchise LT, not Byron Bell. I could go on but I think you get where I'm going.

I agree with you. I do actually think Ron is actually a very good coach but I think his style has become outdated. He’s an emotional leader of men that gets players motivated to win for each other. The problem is, no matter how hard you play in this league, if you don’t have the right strategy and game plan then you will lose. And that was Ron’s weakness.

The players loved him but he become too predictable to the opposition. And while the players would give him 110% it just got to the point where that wouldn’t be enough to get the job done anymore.

There’s always a place for motivators in team sports and Ron is amongst the best in that regard. But I’m todays NFL I think you need a strategist up at the top.

Well, he had a chance at Hue Jackson, but given their respective personalities, I seriously doubt Jackson and Rivera could have worked together.

That when I get. Not choosing Pat Shurmur I don't get. For whatever his failings as a head coach, Shurmur was a great OC, and he and Rivera had worked together before. Heck, even Gettleman said he endorsed him.

If I remember correctly though, Newton endorsed Shula. That and the whole "continuity" thing helped him get the job.

Wonder if Newton would go back and change that if he could.

Those are the type of decisions that ultimately did Ron in - though bringing in Norv was a step in the right direction and I openly applauded him for it. He was at least willing to change.

Unfortunately it was too little too late. The damage was done and the opportunities were already missed - Super Bowl 50.

Imagine a Shurmur or Norv early in Cam's career. That could have been special.
