Charlotte NC MLS team

Yes, we in Raleigh are salty. Wanted to be the hub in our State for obscure sports in US like Hockey and Soccer.  I would've conceded MLB to Charlotte if it meant MLS came to Raleigh. Sucks but it doesn't mean i'm not excited for MLS in Carolina.  Oh and Charlotte Town FC is the best name of the options that have been filed so far.  I prefer Queen City FC but I doubt they do it.

At this point, I think Raleigh might have a better shot at MLB than Charlotte. At least in the near future. Seems like Tepper's long term plan is a domed, dual-purpose stadium, a la Atlanta. With that on the horizon, I doubt that the city will be shelling out any money for baseball stadiums.

the original name of Charlotte was Charlotte Town in 1760-whatever when it was first incorporated though, so i think its pretty cool

Thanks for the info. I’m warming to it now! My Charlton-supporting friend loves the idea of Charlotte Athletic.

Charlotte I would think has the edge on MLB as well though, it would just take a different investor.  AFAIK, Baseball is Raleigh is super grass roots and has no major investors.  It is what it is.  I just want a team in every sport in my State.

If you haven’t joined Mint City Collective, you should check us out

Stupid question here, but why Mint City? I thought Charlotte was always the Queen City.

I think it was Jacksonville I was in the other week and they kept calling it by two different nicknames too.

Mint City is the supporter group. Most of the time the supporter group doesn’t match the team name and pays homage to the area.

Charlotte had the first US Mint in the south it was located near the reed gold mine I believe. Plus the colors are a blue and mint green color for the supporter group.

check us out, we got a lot of events planned this year and also have chapters established NoDa (the one I’m apart of), Belmont, Kernersville, Matthews and West End.

Just saw an article with Tepper filing these as potential names.  I personally hope they keep it simple as Charlotte FC or Charlotte Crown FC

Charlotte FC, Charlotte Crown FC, Charlotte Fortune FC, Charlotte Monarchs FC, Charlotte Athletic FC, Charlotte Town FC, Carolina Gliders FC and All Carolina FC.

I like Charlotte FC, with the team being nicknamed The Crown. Can't wait to see MLS in the region soon. A potential natural rivalry with Nashville, too.

Sorry for the late reply but thanks for the explanation, makes perfect sense again. I live in the UK but will be watching with interest - it would be great to go in a few years time and visit Charlotte in the Summer months or even in the Fall to coincide with NFL.

Then going back to Duckworths or something to watch the other kick offs because hopefully by then Charlotte would become a city fully vested in soccer as well as NFL!

Keep up the good work and I’ll be standing with you soon!

    • I think a lot of wrs are going to go in the second round before we pick.  There are a lot of wr needy teams.  I think there will be a big run on them in the late 30s and 40s.
    • Interesting that they met with Walker three times and Cam Jackson twice.
