Harbaugh made it to the nfc championship the previous year with Alex Smith, and before Smith got hurt I think they were like 6-2

I mean Alex Smith was pretty good too, 3 time pro bowler.  Not elite, but pretty good.

But they were more successful with Kap.

And if you think Alex Smith was below average game manager, and Kap was trash, it makes Harbaugh's achievements even more impressive.

I don't know how anyone could not want the guy;  he's by far the best coach on the market.

I doubt he'll come here unless Tepper offers him 20 million a year.

You have to believe either one of two things

(1) Harbaugh was such a great coach, he managed to get a terrible quarterback in Colin Kap one play away from being a Superbowl champion.

or

(2) Kaepernick was actually a really good quarterback when utilized by competent coaches

I happen to think they were both good, but I've been amused to see the same people who say Kaepernick doesn't deserve a job as a backup also talk about how Harbaugh had a 'stacked' team in SF

It can't be both

We should get the gang back together (if Cam is hurt);  Kap, Harbaugh, Roman;  run a heavy zone read offense

There's an option C. That is was a lot more about Greg Roman than it was Jim Harbaugh. Based on what the Ravens are doing this year, I'm leaning very heavily that direction.

here's my thing about jim harbaugh. i watch NFL for entertainment. i don't really get too upset at losses - i prefer winning and i am emotionally invested in the team yeah but i'm still entertained win or lose.

so in this sense jim harbaugh is win/win. he might be a great coach and we win a lot, but also if we lose a lot it would be fuging hysterical watching him have flailing, flouncing, gesticulating meltdowns on the sideline every time jerome boger throws a flag wrong

He might have a short shelf life but he turned the 49ers around in a heartbeat.  I still remember the playoff game in 2013, and I believe a key component of that was Harbaugh figuring out very early on how the refs were going to deal with tempers on the field.  Stoic Ron wanted his players to be stiff and "professional" while Harbaugh's picked and prodded until a Panther retaliated and got flagged.
