If we're concerned about Cam's injury issues, why would we be interested in Tua?

Value.

5 year contract paying 3-4M per year for a young player with many less miles on the odometer, vs. older banged up player who will cost us 21M this coming year, and by some miracle gets healthy would cost us 30M+ over the next handful after that.

I'm not saying that I'm interested or pushing for Tua, but there is reason to keep an eye on him.

That was about the fan reaction when the Atlanta sports community tore itself to shreds which is exactly what's happening on this board.

The dogfighting thing had nothing at all to do with that hysteria? How can you try to make a distinction between the two situations while ignoring that? Newton has been nothing but a terrific teammate and a respected presence within the community.

Just stop dude.

19 million for a Qb today is a bargain

I’ll take Cam Newton with a heated foot and a 80% arm over any of the current draft class and free agents

newton, meeting that criteria, puts butts in the seats.  The question becomes does he want to be here

ill say this again, I believe Cam would flourish with a Greg Roman or the OC guy in Indy

there is nothing wrong with that scenario

if he can’t throw  different story but there have been many great qbs that don’t have to throw the ball a milion miles an hr.  He was becoming that guy

Jeremy Fowler reported that there's actually more concern about the shoulder than the foot.

Do you understand how offseason workouts, training camp, and the salary cap work?  Or does none of that matter?  For us to "show other teams that Cam can get on the field" means that he would be able to participate in all of the offseason, all of TC, and start some games for us, while staying on his 1 year prove it deal.  If he does, GREAT, but that's a hell of a stretch.

Also, what if the next head coach isn't sold on Cam, and Tepper isn't either?

Not sure what you're asking here. Please be more specific.

Having surgery now means he should be back at least towards the tail end of training camp - 7 months from now. Probably a lot sooner. The team should know well before then if he's worth the risk. If Cam is healthy I'd extend him even if I wanted to trade him. Every QB needy team won't be able to draft one in April - without reaching.

You don't have to be sold on Cam to see he's a commodity that shouldn't just be released. His potential value is much too high. The players and draft picks he could garner far exceed what you could pick up via FA by releasing him and using his cap hit.

Nobody, including Cam, will know for sure if he'll be ready for the season until well after the draft. How many teams are going to forego drafting a day-1 QB because a 30-year old Cam Newton with shoulder and foot surgeries under his belt might be healthy enough to get on the field come September?

Every team that needs a QB will not get a franchise level player in the draft. Many will settle for Grier-level and will still need a Cam.

You don't cut bait with a player like Cam because of cap hit - unless you have a replacement at least close to his level of talent.

Come on Mr. Scot. That lose to the Skins was the nail. The Falcons game pretty much did it, but the Skins game made it a "done deal".

It doesn’t fit his narrative plus all the twitter insiders he follows say something else and clearly they know all and see all.

There's practical and there's mathematical.

The mathematical side of it at least is still open.

No, we're not making the playoffs.
