Lost in the big news today.. are we suppose to read into this as he expects cam to be back with the team next hear? I'm seeing him say more things that point in that direction than the more overwhelming hes done and out the door-already talking to Chicago nonsense from earlier. Just based off the comments I have heard him say, not based on what the"experts" are hearing.

In terms of Cam long term here the more telling thing to me is actually the "5 years to be consistent winner" comment....

Yea...that's not a thing if you have your franchise QB already in place....that's the writing I see on the wall. With Cam and a competent draft we're back out and winning. But it also does seem to me like Tepper may like the idea of Cam on a cheap 1 year deal to see what it looks like with S. Turner at OC and if it works out then great.

Maybe the reason he retained Hurney is for not making the 36 million dollar mistake? Who knows at this point, but everyone is under the microscope from this point forward.

Here is how I look at it:  If Cam were playing on another team and was released or put on the trading block, and he had not  been healthy for 2 seasons + and has not won a game in in his last 8, would I offer him a $20m per year deal to play for my team?

That would be a big ole bowl of NOPE.

Cam is not a pitcher in baseball.  Wins and losses is not a QB stat.

The Franchise hopes his foot and shoulder will be good.

The Franchise is very doubtful that will be the case.

These two things are not mutually exclusive.

Yep.

Best chance we've got of winning is a healthy Cam. They know this.

The chances of Cam coming back healthy are slim. They know this too.

As to his comments regarding Newton, I'd agree that they're based more in hope than in reality. If I were applying them to real life, I might say I sure hope this lottery ticket I bought gets me a million dollars but I'd better keep working at my job just in case.

On the flipside, the comments about Rome not being built in a day, a new head coach not being a savior and that maybe it takes five years to build a consistent winner all sound like Tepper is prepared for a rough stretch of rebuilding. And no, that likely doesn't include Newton.

it really does suck to think that crappy Bucs game is gonna be the last image we have of him in a Panther uniform, but unfortunately that's probably true.

Precisely where I stand.

Hope is great and all, but it don't win football games.

    • I mean it's not even like this was his worst game of the season... I'm not done with him by any means but this feels more the norm for him than the exception:/
    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
