Those cases have all been settled. They are a private matter and should stay that way.

nope that piece of poo and all of his enablers should be made to feel like the scum that they are imo. unlike you i’m glad that the story broke, that those “settled cases” made the news, and this “private matter” was entered into the public record.

I feel reasonably confident that tommorrow's presser will be very short on discussing his dismissal and long on reflecting on his time here and thanking people in the organization.

Exactly. And neither Ron nor the Panthers want the focus to be on anything else.

And for good reason. The man has coached here for almost 9 years. That truly is a long tenure in the NFL.

And while I believe it is time for Rivera to go (although i question the timing but accept Tepper's rationale for it), Ron deserves a chance to reflect before riding off into the sunset and onto his next team.

Tenures rarely end well in the NFL, but the run from 2013 - 2015 was fun, and 2015 was a truly special season although it ended poorly.

The 2015 NFC Championship at home dominating the Cardinals was the pinnacle of my Panthers fandom thus far.

I felt conflicted when John Fox left even though the 2010 season was a disaster and it was time just like I do now. 2003-2005 was a fun ride, too.

But in everything, life goes on. Magic usually only exists for a short while in the NFL (unless you're the Patriots). Fox could never sustain success and neither could Rivera. It's hard in a league that tries so hard to achieve parity.

So we bid adieu and hope we find our next coach who can get us back to the Super Bowl and hopefully win one.

Spoke to a former staff member on that topic. His take was that Ron Rivera could very easily not have known about Richardson's issues. The football operations and business operations departments of the Panthers are on opposite sides of BOA and rarely intermingle.

they intermingled enough for him to call a black scout a racial slur

If it sounds more like a retirement presser than a "you're fired" presser, I'll be happy.

Hearing the words "thank you" would be nice too.

I feel confident Rivera will be as gracious as can be. He had a good run here, regardless of what any naysayers may say.

And he's going to get another head coaching job, probably within a month. He's in a much better situation than many fired coaches.

Imo the only thing that would suggest he should is coaching the team to a Super Bowl. If that criteria gets Ron in, it should also get John Fox in as well, and not to insult either man, but I really don't want our team's Ring of Honor to include two coaches whose records were mediocre overall but managed to come up just short in the big game as their highest acheivement.

The Hall of Honor is already starting out as kind of a joke. The team isn’t very old and hasn’t had any real sustained success that other great franchises have had. If they’re just going to let everyone in who had any kind of success it dilutes the meaning of the achievement

Just stop. Richardson is gone.

No one but you in interested in trying to rehash that

i’m not rehashing anything. lots of folks got a pass when richardson went away. powerful people in the organization knew what was going on. if this team is going to go out of its way to allow rivera to leave gracefully or w/e, emotional press conference and all, while fans keep repeating how “good” of a man he is, then imo it’s fair to ask some difficult questions. rivera was coach when “mister” carefully checked cam’s hair and skin for signs of dreadlocks and tattoos. he was coach when ”mister” called a scout a racial slur. he was coach when “mister” suggested punishment in response to players kneeling in protest of police brutality. just how much did he know? that’s all i want to know. has anyone ever asked him that? will they ever get another opportunity after tomorrow?

mr “i would have taken a shot too” gets the “he’s a good man if not a good coach” treatment when his words seem to suggest that his morals and his football acumen are pretty even. i hope he never gets another job again but shitheads like him always fail upward. fug off forever, ron.

its because he thinks he's in the military.

This maybe a dick thing to say but a lot of people in the media are acting like we just fired bill belicheck. I totally get Ron is a great dude and all that but he is literally the definition of mediocre. It’s very odd to me. Maybe a weird place to post this but I really figured Ron would just say a couple things to some reporters and be on his way. Presser is a little much tbh.

I agree. Holding this press conference tomorrow is a bit much. Everyone just needs to move on.

Whom I believe, circumstantially, to have been Khary Darlington.

Darlington was an up and coming scout with the team. He'd been interviewed on site a couple of times and clearly knew what he was talking about. In 2011 Darlington (at that time the Panthers Southeast area scout) was one of the main advocates pushing for the Panthers to draft a young quarterback out of Auburn that he'd been scouting.

And then one day, he was nowhere to be found on the team site, not listed in the team's media guide, and unacknowledged in all Panther information. It was like he never even existed.

Wonder why

I remember thinking Darlington had a really bright future with us. He could have really been something, but one exchange with a sleazy old bastard changed his whole direction.

I was at that game and sat with a friend from work who speaks spanish. In the row directly in front of us was a whole slew of hispanic guys wearing their capes like they do for futbol.  You know how they go crazy in latin countries every time a goal is scored? Well these guys do the same every time there is a touchdown for the home team. Think about how many touchdowns we scored in that game. We all went absolutely bonkers as a game we expected to be a tight contest turned into an absolute blowout.

That game was also the pinnacle of my Panthers fandom to date.
