Yeah, that Caserio thing is going to be ugly.  And from what I've heard (much of it probably from you), Khan is a Colbert guy, so it's not surprising he's not the heir apparent if the team is indeed headed for a split from KC.

It would actually make a lot of sense for Colbert to come in as a consultant with Khan being either the GM or Asst. GM/GM in waiting.  Let Colbert be the bridge between the current Panther model and the changes Tepper wants to make, while Khan find his footing.

It's an option. I'm still thinking Caserio in that role right now because Khan doesn't have a scouting background.

But yeah, anything's possible. Tepper might be okay with Khan not being a scout as long as he subscribes to analytics.

(heck, he seems okay with Hurney never having been a scout)

That's my concern with Khan.  Lack of scouting experience was Hurney's biggest weakness, IMO, so I'm not overjoyed at the prospect of another inexperienced scout as GM.  But I think that unlike JR, Tepper would recognize this missing element and surround Khan with plenty of support.  I also suspect that Khan has likely learned a few things by simple osmosis and being around a quality team.  Of course, we'd also have to hire some good scouts that can find talent...especially obscure talent.

Gotta say, the idea of having Kevin Colbert rebuild our scouting department sounds grrreeeeeaaat.

"Marty Hurney happens to be an excellent evaluator of college talent. You can look at the stats, that’s what it is. When I talk about this assistant GM, there’s other things. I believe in these football organizations there should be two different people. Somebody on the outside, somebody on the inside to get that level of excellence. So, I’m going to keep somebody who I think is very good at putting the best position for success, and also a very good general manager, if you will. "

Basically says that the new position will be assistant to Hurney, goes on about reporting to business side and handling things when marty is out of town.

So I completely think its going to be a Beane type of situation.  Younger guy who will focus on contracts, negotiations and reporting to the business side just like Beane did for a while here.
