Video: David Tepper explains why he fired Ron Rivera

Sounds like hurney went after guys tepper wanted and being the typical walk over he is, it didn't mesh well with implementation of ron. I guess we get one or ten more years of poo. Hurneys blow jobs must be amazing. The guy cannot judge talent and now this has me questioning tepper even more

Or he recognizes that Hurney is the best first round drafter in the NFL. May want to hang onto someone like that.

Yep, seems like he’ll have an opportunity to stick around in a role, as a part of a team that is making decisions but he won’t be the top dog in the FO. This is a somewhat unique structure if that’s what it is, but it’s had some success in different places... Right here in Carolina the Hurricanes have somewhat of a GM/FO by committee with several people involved and nobody with ‘final say’ and the Seahawks have a similar structure in their FO.

He specifically mentions around 5:15 that he could potentially put someone else (maybe an analytical type) in the GM rols.

Given that the vast majority of his talk there was about scouting, I'd say it's at least possible that you see Marty reassigned (Director of College Scouting perhaps) and someone else given final say over the full roster.

I could live with that. Scouting department heads are primarily administrators.

So for non-Hurney fans, I wouldn't panic just yet.

The fact he went coach first says everything. Hurney is making Tepper his bitch. And destroying the fan base, the team will move to saint Louis and the falcons will win next years superb owl.

If Tepper is dumb enough to keep Hurney long term, we might as well trade our 2nd through 6th round draft picks every year to be honest.

I’m not a Hurney guy but the dude may have drafted two league MVPs on this same roster. Say what you want, but that’s definitely something you take notice of

“Marty Hurner is one of the best evaluators of college talent in the country. period. And I don’t want to lose that”

Why not make head of scouting operations instead of a full blown GM?!

I'd say that's a real possibility.

Go back and listen again and you'll notice that in the clip, you never hear Tepper say the words "Marty is remaining in the GM role".

If that were the case, why not just say so?

Tl:dr expect shitty games for 2-3 seasons of rebuild.

This is what everyone here wanted. As a fan it's not what I want... but some people here are going to understand what this means for maybe the first time.

    • If my reply comes off argumentative, that is not my intention so please don’t take it as such.  You said one word, probably subconsciously, in your post that immediately disqualifies him from being a QB in the NFL. You actually said it twice. Kid. It’s exactly how you see him, and exactly how the rest of the entire NFL sees him as well.  Yes, he is a kid, he looks and acts like a kid and that exactly IS the problem. The NFL is for grown ass men. Period. Hell, our kicker looks like he collects ‘taxes’ as a side hustle. These are straight dudes. Men.  Nothing in his persona changed from last year to this.  Nothing in his physical stature. Nothing. He has shown 0 development. 0. And he disrespects the entire organization, talking video games and Netflix in the offseason. Bro. Really. My man Chuba is busting his ass to look good for his second contract. Set himself up for life. How many RBs make it to even sign contract #3? First 2 games he has to run in to a brick wall continuously because Netflix can’t even get it over the LOS.  He’s a kid who pulled off the biggest heist in world history. He looks happier on the sideline goofing around than he ever has looked on the field. It’s time to cut bait.
    • I hear you and I can imagine it's frustrating as a fan, but UNC-CH leaving the ACC would be throwing away over a century of history. It would really suck if y'all, or Clemson, or any of the other remaining charter members leave. I still think it sucks that Maryland left as well. Feels so wrong not having that rivalry anymore. Maryland fuging hated us and I loved it. Who's Maryland's rival now in the big 10? Rutgers? lol. Also, I think that the Heels are more likely to be Kentucky 2.0 than you are to get serious about football upon joining the SEC. Both UNC (and also Duke's) administrations seem very stuck in their ways with sticking to their ways and remaining basketball powerhouses. I do wish we could see NC teams actually competing in my favorite sport sometimes but alas. I personally value keeping our history intact over trying to become top flight CFB programs because nowadays it's just a pay to win sport anyways. Even if UNC-CH got serious I doubt they could compete with that Texas oil money, or that Oregon nike money, or that USC rich kid money. That's all top level college football really is anymore. You're either an established blue blood or you're willing to waste tons of money that could be spent on education rather than football.
    • Maybe a move to the SEC forces UNC to be more serious about football?   I mean we should be making noise in the weak ACC and we can't even do that. How is Duke better than UNC in football right now? It's honestly sad and pathetic.   It doesn't matter if we get another great QB as you said a QB doesn't mean you have a great roster. A QB can only do so much. We lack elite guys in the trenches. That's how you build a program. It starts up front.
