Scouting Department Potentially Gutted

Untouchable

I'd like the new GM to make these decisions.

If this is really happening now, that doesn't bode well for a change in management.

On the flipside though, if you're gutting that department, why would you then turn around and keep the guy who organized it?

If it genuinely is something like them being told their contracts won't be renewed, that's plausible and the timing would make a lot more sense.

If this is true, this is huge news. It means Hurney at the very least is gone for sure.

I don’t know about that. Generally scouts are kept through the draft then let go when the GM is fired so you at least have the guys that have done the scouting throughout the year to help the new GM. This is the opposite. Seems like it could be a hint that Hurney is getting another year with new scouts to prove himself.

The timing on this is very strange.

Dont see it that way,  new GM bringing in his own scouts seems more likely. This might all be a done deal.

The GM does bring in his own scouts but that doesn’t happen until after the draft. You can’t just bring in new scouts who haven’t been on the road scouting the college games and expect to be prepared for the draft. Plus many of the scouts the new GM will want to bring in will be from other teams.

Everyone does it that way.

Sure you can just watch us.

Tepper isnt the typical owner. So start getting used to seeing a different way of operating.

Who says the scouts that are to be hired haven't already been on the road doing their homework?  I mean they are scouts now and presumably already employed by someone or a team somewhere right?   I mean who hires someone for an important job that they never have really done before.  It would be like hiring a radio personality to be GM.  Who the hell does that?

If they've been told that their contracts aren't being renewed, then that sets up this exact scenario and it's not at all unprecedented.

Remember, the story doesn't specify that this is happening right now.

You don’t think those scouts on other teams have non compete clauses that run through the draft?

I’m not happy about it but this is how I read the situation.
